Title: Project Offset
Post by: Melbosa on August 08, 2005, 03:14:32 PM
Man if they every release this game, and it run on our hardware, how sweet it will be: http://www.projectoffset.com/

More likely vaporware when you have 3 guys making a game by themselves, but man the sneak previews are worth checking out.

Then again Croteam did it once.

Looks like these guys are x-Savage Game Developers :D.  Guess S2 really did fold.

I really suggest you take the time and download the previews.  Definately worth your time and effort.

The industry has gotta be really bad if they cant actually get a job in their field :P

I hope it works out, they have some very stiff competition with limitless marketing budgets

I suspect if EA is laying peeps off, Blizzard is closing up shops, etc that it is not so good for the game devs/artists/producers etc out of work out there.

Ive heard that the work is great for Artists but programmers are not required.  The industry has really moved towards the visuals and less towards the gameplay, they count on the multiplayer aspects in many ways to make up for the short falls.

ALl the buzz around the X360 and PS3 is that its great for graphics, but wont push the envelope in terms of AI processing abilities.

That's why you should try RonStar Games, currently we're working on a sequel to our popular 1982 title "Jell-O Wrestler '82"

The new title will be called Johnny Awesome's Jello Wreslting Challenge '87 and it will be available for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988!

Check out some screens!

In one or two player action. Fight your way as Jin or Jun to the top of the Jello World Wrestling Championship and show you have what it takes to be a Winner!

*imagine* is the key word there.

The oldskool gamez, they made you *think*. The grafix disappeared with a few minutes of actual "FUN" gameplay. I picked up the "Atari Flashback" thingie, quick and simple, plugs into the TV, in an instant there's 20 classic VCS/7800 games, including of course Adventure, and my kids (GameCube addicts though they are) often fight over who gets to play SkyDiver or Warlords or Breakout... Gotta love the universal innocence of the wee folk, eh :)

heck, Futureschlock even has a whole section devoted to these type of retro toys:

Forget the Offset *GAME*... the ENGINE is what we should be wowed by... Like the Serious Engine, it's like the game is just a showcase for the tech. (PS: Croteam is close to releasing SAM2, remember... I'm guessing the Sophomore Curse won't apply.)

And if you read the Offset tech page you'll see that their ideal is that more programmers are out of a job, too :o  :P

Quote
Every aspect of the engine is designed around the goal of reducing development time and cost, while empowering designers and artists with the tools they need to create spectacular visual effects and immersive environments.
...
The Offset Engine's advanced shader system allows artists to create elaborate effects without needing a programmer.
...
The Offset Editor allows all aspects of the game and game content to be created and modified inside a single application. It is built from the ground up with the goal of decreasing development time in every aspect of game creation.
