One of the seemingly nice guys of TV, and an ultimate victim of type-casting Bob Denver dies at 70.
Say hi to the Skipper for us Bob.

I can honestly say, that while i know of "Gilligan's Island", i have never watched a single minute of it on TV. I concider it a blessing i think.
Oh man, that's sad news, "Gilligan" was actually a pretty nice guy (by all accounts).
Let's all sing in memory:
Rocky Mountain High... Oops, wrong guy. :P
How can anyone live in this pop culture drenched society without seeing an episode of the classic 70s absurdist misunderstanding show... the one that paved the way for Three's Company and Fraser, to name the noteables influenced by Skipper and his lil buddy...
PS: The writing on GI was certainly the reason it is a classic (see Mr. Schwartz' other works here: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0777442/) but I think Denver's performance as the hapless and uber-innocent first mate was what gave it a heart.
