Well our little community is about to have its 2rd birthday. The domain was registered in 12/2/2003, but it wasn't until January of 2004 when the whole of Righteous Wrath was born. To make things easy, gonna say January 1, 2004, Righteous Wrath was born. What brought this on you might ask? Well I got my Domain Renewal email a bit back and renewed the Domain today. Thought it would be nice to post the upcoming event, now that I remembered to retain the domain name :P.
So any ideas what we could do for this event this year, if any? It doesn't have to be on New Years day persay, but something we can do with the whole online Righteous Wrath community. A contest, a prize giveaway, an all out gaming session online? What?
Oh and as always, donations are welcome to support the costs of this site. Not expected, but welcome always.
Hmm, maybe this is an event type thingie we can do, though New Years is a bit sticky for Tonnica and I this year and speaking as top poster I would like to be there.
I would like to do something at Shank's or Red's (bowling or something). As top poster I can find some wacky door prises but I would need to know how many people are coming first.
Was hoping more online based as we have members outside of the Edmonton area.
Couldn't we do both?
Guess I could provide some history of Righteous Wrath for those who came later in the picture.
Righteous Wrath began as an online guild in the game Asheron's Call 2. Mags and I wanted to try out their guild system and needed a name. I came up with a play on words of Righteous Wrath, and it stuck. We created a toon with that name (at the time you couldn't make a named guild, it was more a "House of.." the toon at the top of the guild tree. Eventually they added the ability to named the guild, which retired the toon and made the actual thing official.
Mags and I were throwing around the idea of a website for our members to visit and place ideas. A group of us out of Edmonton had also talked about a place to share things online for a while too. Being that I am always trying to learn new things within the IT field, I threw the idea by Mags about starting a .COM. He had one already, nanopicks.com, but wasn't really focused on the gaming community, so I decided to buy the .COM as an experiment.
Then came trying to figure out how to host a DNS for free. Spent a couple of days finding sites that had free DNS hosting, and eventually found two I wanted to try. Learning how to write Zone files was an interesting experience, but one that I value so much today.
Then the website itself. The forums actually came first. Thank's to Cova, I was able to get a feel for IPB v1.2 boards, and began to play with IPB v1.3 on a PII 350 I had at home. Mags and I worked on getting the Forums laid out, first for just AC2 guild conversation, but then eventually for an overall gaming community site. Next we asked Shaeleam to come up with a website design based off our default skin on the Forums. This is the website you see today.
Being that every forum needs an email server, Cova again came through and helped me come up with a email server system that I now run for four domains.
Then in January we began to advertise the website to the Edmonton community of peeps and those online in AC2. Slowly the site began to mature. Members started signing up and discussions began to grow. Some sections of the forum would grow, others would die out (everyone remember "Ask Magnus?"). The community of Righteous Wrath would become tighter as the first year progressed.
AC2 would eventually die off, and Star Wars Galaxies would be the next game that the core RW members would migrate to. Then Horizons and Final Fantasy Online, City of Heroes, World of Warcraft, Guild Wars, and EQ2 (well only Shaeleam I believe is in that at the moment). We are linked off multiple MMO sites, usually under their guild sections.
Today we are running on a new phpBB Forums, a result of the death of the original server. We have members from many parts of the world, some very active, others rarely seen. Our biggest contingent is from RW's root location of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and surrounding area.
Things for the future: A redesign of the website (not forums) - underway at the moment thanks to Shaeleam yet again, dynamic web content, gaming and more gaming. Hopefully the RW community will continue to grow. I know, revisiting the history here, that I never expected this experiment in Website hosting and design would have grown to what it is today, and would continue past the first 2 years I bought in the beginning (for a great deal I might add).
I would like to personally thank all of you for your support and contributions to this community. It has definately been worth all the headaches and pains of administration, bandwidth, and effort put forth on my part.
Thank you and happy posting,
Melbosa

Sure, if interest.
Oh, and if I missed any people/events in my history, share them here. I was just reciting the majors I remember. I know Mr. Analog has provided content for the website before, and Mags produced some of our original images and the PvP rank system which people requested in WoW.
Gratz one and all, for not killing each other in this relatively anarchic online community!
Oh, and Mel/Mags, ah yes, I recall the early days of NP - it's amazing to see how far http://nanopics.com has come, to think your site shows you are actually doing nanotechnology research, wow! ;)
My vote is Red's or a movienite with BPs or something. In addition to an online gathering, maybe everyone get Skype installed and working and we have a free conference call, vote on some topics before hand, heck make it a once a month thing!?
PS: http://www.righteouswrath.com/games.htm is no longer up to date, is it? More people are prolly playing CoH/CoV now than WoW ;)
Yeah I know. Holding off updates to the website until Shae produces the new site look :D.
I'm almost done with the graphics, you should get them tormorrow or Sunday...
I once got banned for calling Mags out.

Erm...ummm....I've been a total bum and haven't done it yet....but it is forthcoming, something like the default skin of the forums.
Due to the FTP lockout and that Mel only gives himself access to the files for the RW website ;)
doing updates all the time on the main site is a bit of a pain, I've been trying to convinve Mel to put together some sort of web-based updater that will let me modify files from home....but....maybe you all can help me with that :)
hehehe
Y'know I can't remember if we decided anything for the forums, either way HAPPY BIRTHDAY RW!!
I'd be up for some pool at Gateway tomorrow afternoon or evening, if everyone thinks thats a good place to meet.
Sounds sweet!
SInce Mr. Analog's the only one who's replied so far, I'll assume no one else has read the post, or they can't make it. Perhaps we could try for wing Wednesday?
Having seen that others have been online, I will assume that there is no interest in doing a RW get together in the near future. That being said, I do want to meet with the D&D group to determine a play schedule for 2006.
