So does the world work in ways that reward for the good, punish the bad?  Does the actions of one push the reactions of others, well down the road?  Is there really a grand design that will balance out your existance?

Man deep thoughts eh?  Well just wondering who out there is for this thing called "Karma" (or whatever you call it yourself)?  Just thought I'd ask a simple, yet deep subject for the hell of it.

Me?  Well I sure damn well hope so.  Life has to eventually give you a break, it has to be possible.  I know the old "be thankful for what you've got" routines, but hey once and a while I'd love to have something be simple, easy or generous.  So I hold hope that Karma is real, in the hopes that things can come around to those who wait and deserve.  How about you all?

Too deep? Meh, what they hey, sometimes we have to have discussions around stuff outside the whole computer, gaming or otherwise world don't we?

I believe one should do acts of goodness irregardless of reward. Unless you take karma as a less mystical readjustment to peoples attitude towards you. If I'm a dick to everyone, some people will intentionally hose me.

Meditate on this grasshoppah and take the pebble from my hand...

So err, in other words we hold the keys to our own destinies. That is to say if there is something in your life that is a problem, find a way to solve it.

Yes, there is Karma.  It's been there right from the first edition of the Shadowrun rules that FASA put out, and it's still there in the third edition rulebook I have sitting at home.

Oh, wait, outside of gaming... :P

I don't beleive in a karma mistic force or anything, but I believe that if you are nice to others you have a greater chance of them being nice to you.

I believe in karma simply because the base concept is true enough; do good things and something good will happen to you. Do something bad and it will come back to bite you in the butt. The biting-in-the-butt part is defenitely part of societys' refusal to tolerate too much bad behaviour (and the search for justice).

The good things though, they come from much more abstract angles. Let's say you share your umbrella with someone one day which grows their appreciation of you. Later on after further growing of appreciation they give you some basil plants so you have delicious fresh basil to enjoy. Though karma does cycle and it's impossible to predict when something good will happen to you next. (I was going to use another example but then I realize I'd just be stating verbatim the goal of those dating sim games)

I also believe in kismet. Sometimes, things just happen to fall into place. And when they do I steeple my fingers, enjoy a good healthy overlord-esque chuckle, and remind myself not to drop into a lengthy sililoquy (at least while the hero is still alive).

It's a big world with a lot of factors floating about which can cause the immediate illusion of karma made tangible. Hey, sometimes things just happen! But in the long run it's always best to be good to others.
