So, what console, if any, do you plan on buying in the future?
Well, I voted PS3 as I will have one in a few weeks, but honestly I'm not looking forward to much on it. Whatever Microsoft does next I will own as they haven't taken very many (if some, they are minor) missteps along the way, and I really enjoy the franchises and online experience they provide me with.
I would love to have a console but honestly I would never play it hehe.
So voted no to the consoles.
PC is enough for me
Being as impressed with the last 2 M$ Consoles as I am... I'd had to vote for the next one from the all-mighty M$.
Taking into consideration the fact that most people define the "next-gen" consoles as 360, Wii, PS3 - My next-gen console IS a 360 - no plans to get a Wii or PS3
What I buy next for a console - probably a second original Xbox (to accomodate streaming video/music into bedroom via XMBC), or as I voted, whatever MS releases next.
I currently don't own a nextgen console, but plan on getting a Wii on its release. I really like the fun factor in the DS stylus games and look forward to what the motion sensor controller will bring in the Wii.
Might also get a 360 if Gears of War turns out to be all that it is hyped up to be.
I voted Wii because I expect it will have more kid-friendly games, it's way cheaper, it has a neato controller (that could become a pain in the long run, who knows), and I have no need for a hi-def output as I don't have nor will buy in the near future a hi-def TV to hook it to.
It'll probably be a while before we buy anything at all, though. The kids are busy enough with hockey and school, they don't really have much time to sit and play video games (yay!).
The more Wii videos I see the more that I am interested, but to me the lack of HD is 90% the reason I am so against getting one.

The Wii looks interesting, but at the same time its a Nintendo product so the vast majority of the games for it are gonna be for people a lot younger than I am.
And I wouldn't buy anything anymore that isn't HD - in fact I'm now trying to stay with all 1080p.
It's Wii for me. I don't own a Gamecube and there are some games I've really wanted to own/play for that system. In fact I've already bought Tales of Symphonia for the Gamecube in preperation. In fact, I think I'm going to start buying GC games I wanted on the cheap in preperation for the Wii release. It's a nice bonus alongside being able to play the next-gen titles that'll come out for the Wii.
When they come out with a Harvest Moon game for the Wii that has fishing I'll be totally set. Barring that, River King for Wii. I'm also expecting a Dragon Quest game like the one released earlier this year that uses motion sensing controls to let you hack through the adventure.
The Wii will play the GC mini disks? I thought Wii's compatibility went only as far as running the same game, but on Wii media?
From what I've read, the disc reader will accept both the 8cm GameCube discs and the 12cm Wii discs.
Thats d*mn hawt.

What he said. Exactly, completely, totally everything he said. :o :)

Nintendo is the anti-Sony -- they actually know/careabout their customers, and since so many of us GC owners have 20 or 30 games, we are pleased to know those discs will be totally compatible with the new box. Less waste, more happy!

Actually isn't the Wii the first and only Nintendo console (not portable) to be backward compatible out of the box? No I am not counting the Gameboy Player, as it plays portable games.
Darren, the PS3 will be backwards compatible to the PS1.
From what I remember about Nintendo, NES, SNES, and N64 cartridges were all different sizes, then GameCube switched to the 8cm disc.
From what I remember about Sony, PS and PS2 both 12cm discs, and PS2 could play PS games. And isn't there talk about PS3 playing PS2 games, or was that just unsubstantiated hype?
Nope that is true Thorin. PS3 is backwards compatible all the way to PS1 including PS2.
PS3 reminds me of Windows 95 Support or 8-Bit support in Windows XP.
Here's a reason I picked the Wii: Bob Ross' The Joy of Painting (http://wii.ign.com/articles/699/699647p1.html) for Wii. Its possible because of the Wii Remote (it's also coming out for the DS, thanks to the DS stylus input). Realistic paintbrush movements? Only possible on the Wii.
Okay, I know most people on here won't run out and buy this game, but I know my kids love to sit and draw pictures on paper as well as spend hours painting pictures on the computer using MS Paint... Plus, there are supposed to be mini-games tucked in that I'm sure they'll enjoy.
I think that would be fun... but how does one print the accomplishments out? and frame it... oh hell I am just gonna get a paint pallet and start painting. On second thought the Wii is cleaner no bushes to clean. As long as it has pre-made items then it should be good. Painting a whole tree would be pain staking.
Well the Wii has built in WiFi and an online service.. It is possible they could offer basic file output support, email you your creations, or have an online poster printing service.. or it could just be fun like mario paint was.
Consider that you have a 50" TV, smaller movements are magnified on the larger TV. Sounds frustrating and isn't a box of crayons and a colouring book cheaper?
Oh, and it cant get an idea of how hard you are pushing
However the hands-on previews of CoD3 seem very good for the Wii.

The Wii (and the game itself, I'm sure) come with sensitivity settings.

One of each, yes. We've got over a dozen colouring books and boxes of crayons, markers, felts, and pencils. Also, every picture the kids draw they want hung up on the wall - if you can't print it, then they can't ask to hang it up (although they might just make a paper copy of it and want *that* hung on the wall). The point to the game, though, is not just to make some pictures, but to actually learn something about painting while making pretty pictures, just like Bob Ross's show on public TV back in the 80s and 90s.
Still, it's a really neat idea, with real outside-the-box thinking. I hope Nintendo encourages more of this kind of thinking, because we can get some really interesting games based on the ability of the controller to sense movements in three dimensions.

Anyone else besides me find their popculture-filled brain suddenly playing out that Family Guy cutaway scene? ("We'll just paint this little bush in the corner... it's our little secret. AND IF YOU TELL ANYONE ABOUT IT, I WILL CUT YOU.") :D

I know you plan on selling one or two on eBay; does this announcement concern you?

Quote from: eBay Listing Policy Clarification, October 25th
Sony PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii Pre-Sales. These highly-anticipated video game consoles will be in extremely short supply during their initial launch. During the launch of the similarly-released Microsoft Xbox 360, we saw a high number of well-intentioned sellers unable to meet their pre-sale obligations to buyers due to restricted supply, as well as an increase in fraudulent listings for these items. To prevent similar problems with these latest releases, the following restrictions have been placed on pre-sales for the PS3 and the Wii:
* Only one of each console can be listed per eBay account prior to the launch of the console (PS3 is expected to be available on 11/17/06, Wii on 11/19/06).
* The seller must only accept payment through PayPal, and have at least 50 feedback with a 98% or greater positive rating so that they qualify for PayPal Buyer Protection.
* The pre-sale item must be listed in the 3, 5, 7 or 10-day formats, and cannot use Buy It Now.
* The listing must include a photo of your pre-order receipt in the description.
No "Buy It Now", and you have to take payment through PayPal so the charges can be reversed, and you have to have a pretty good rating to begin with so someone like me (with no rating yet) is not allowed to list at all.
I'm not pre-selling
"Bob Ross" for the Wii http://www.play-nintendo.com/playnintendo/content.php?content_id=330 might not happenish. Not at one company, shopping it around, maybe later? who knows.
*sniffle*

Update:
android8675 over at digg was able to learn a little more from AGFRAG. Here's what he said:
Joseph (AGFRAG dude), said something about Bob Ross Inc. still pursuing a video game version of the late, great Bob Ross's Afro, just not with his group anymore. So not really "canceled", but indefinitely on hold might be a better headline.
Our thanks goes out to him for the info. Like he said, there's still a chance, so get in contact with Bob Ross Inc. to tell them you want the game.
Oh well, another dev team will surely pick it up (since Bob Ross Inc. is still interesting in going forward for a future wiirelease) so perhaps after the first generation of wiimote-enabled games have revealed problems and/or tips for a fun game, it will be all for the best?
Well, why not a mario paint?
