So, a significant number of new Wii owners (myself included) are experiencing a nasty bug after attempting to update for the first time. I finally turned my wireless router on today and at first things were going great. Then I got this fabulous WiiConnect24 error (http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/errors/WiiConnect24Errors.jsp) (link works in IE only... punters). I intend to find out MOAR tomorrow when the Nintendo staff has finished gorging on Turkey flesh.
On the plus side, games still work and are INCREDIBLY FUN.
On the down side, I will MOST LIKELY have to be FORCED to send my Wii back to N-Prime via UPS, my most hated of foes as this problem (from internet hearsay) is un-fixable.
Unless you got the numbered error, that was probably just the busy server message. The service was down or swamped for a while earlier.. I couldn't log in to check the Wii Store.
Might have even been /. ed because of this being posted (http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/11/23/1339216)
110260 if I recall. BELIEVE ME I was on the INTERNETS within seconds of getting it.
Well on the plus side I have already read reports of people sending units in and getting new ones already.. Sound like a quick turn around.
If they only as for the console... Can I borrow your Wiimote LOL.

It is a temendous hassle to have to do this, especially through UPS.

N.O. if I have to suffer, so does everyone else :P
Wii troubleshooting page (http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/ts/index.jsp) only works in IE for me..

Sorry, read the origonal post yesterday.....
So, I called the big N up and I will have to return the console unit to them via Purolator. I'll give 'em a call un Sunday I guess.
It's probably just as well, since when I was playing last night time flew out the window, froze and fell into a snowdrift.

Nintendo isn't handling this?
Ouch this totally sux for you dude! Out of all the consoles, would have thought the Wii would be the most solid of them all!
Use your office address as the Pickup and Dropoff location, turn around could be as little as 3 days.

That's who I meant by 'the Big "N"', apparently there is no fix for this problem that a home user can do without voiding their warrenty. On the plus side, it's all free.

Ah well! The games are a hell of a lot of fun!

Ah, I see, well they get their instruction from Nintendo, I don't have to call them.
Oh thats good. It would just be pure crap if you had to pay a dime of the exchange.
The best part is that I get to keep everything else, I just return the console unit.

Just so you know it sounds like save games can not be transfered between systems currently. In case you where planning on backing them up.

It'd be even better if they did returns the way Visor used to (which i went through when the touch-screen stopped working on mine back in the day).
Have the manufacturer ship you a new one, and they take your CC number. You have a month then to put the old/broken one back into the box the replacement came in, stick the pre-paid shipping label that also came in the box onto the outside, and drop it off at purolator. If you don't return the old one, then they charge the CC for the new one. I'd rather go the month having a partially working unit than nothing at all - and for devices with data on them, having both for a short time makes transfering stuff between 'em easy.

I haven't gotten far enough in anything yet for it to matter, I formatted my Wii last night anyway.
Formatting a game console sounds weird :o

How about erasing the built in memory card? Sound better?
