With all the recent talk about music, I thought it would be fun to have a thread where we post what music we're currently listening to.
I'll start off:
Currently listening to:
"It Can Happen" by Yes
"Champagne Supernova" by Oasis
"Common People", William Shatner. Next is "Toilet Flushing Shelving Unit" from SongsToWearPantsTo.com, then "Out Of This World" by The Cure, "Running Free" by Iron Maiden, and "Even Better Than The Real Thing" by U2.
I love taking about ten or twelve albums and just shuffling the list...
"Lazy Eye" by Silversun Pickups
Good call Thorin.
The next 10 in the iTunes queue...
Punkrocker" by Teddy Bears feat Iggy Pop
It's Not Over" by Daughtry
Paralyzer" by Finger Eleven
Dashboard" by Modest Mouse
Naive" by The Kooks
Save Yourself" by The Colour
Your Touch" by The Black Keys
Fallen Leaves" by Billy Talent
The Prayer" by Bloc Party
Stand Up" by Jet

They seem like a mix of old and just before breakup Smashing Pumpkins. Its a great disc, very solid start to finish. Lazy Eye even has a sort of 1979 beat to it even :)
Just picked up "The Essential Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble (http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=br_ss_hs/?search-alias=aps&keywords=The%20Essential%20Stevie%20Ray%20Vaughan)".
Been hearing a bit of SRV on K-Rock and the Bear the last few weeks, finally decided to purchase a collection of his wailing/haunting/stirring classics cuz sometimes I'm just in a mood to close my eyes and just let his voice and his guitar work flow all around me, let the blues (http://www.google.com/search?q=kids+in+the+hall+blues+man+heckler) song clear away my blues in real life...
Listen to the mix that I made for my Nan's memorial service.
When I Get Where I am Going
Holes In the Floor of Heaven
Angels Among Us
Because You Loved me
Turn! Turn! Turn!
I Miss My Friend
And the list of sad sappy songs go on.
Twilight by ELO
Queued up after that is some Future Sound of London, Wild ARMs 2 soundtrack, Stevie Wonder, Castlevania 20th Anneversary Collection, and Gradius Super Arrange.
Elliot Fisher / Theme From "Our Man Flint"
Queued up:
Jack Fascinato / Spring, Sprang, Sprung
Alvino Rey / Night Train
Martin Denny / Harlem Nocturne
Enjoying some cheesy jazz / lounge music from the early to mid 60s while I draw...
After doing a little R6:V and watching the last half of "Back to the Future" i shamefully admit that I dusted off a really old Huey Lewis & the News CD "Fore!" and have it spinning while I do a few odds and ends *who thought that a javascript colorpicker widget would be so damn easy to code?!*

Oh man, those are a lot of fun to write, I like how with the right math you can make a palette that looks just like the Windows 32 bit colour picker. One of the snazzier ones I've seen is this puppy (http://www.webreference.com/programming/javascript/mk/column3/index.html), though to make MSIE 6 play nice with PNG an HTC is used.
Also, I'm listening to some Nirvana this morning.
On my Archos AV500
Currently: Adriana - Headstrong
Next: The Rat - Walkmen
Next: Until The Day I Die - Story Of The Year
Got Big Earl on this morning

I didn't go that advanced, I'm just using a small pallet a simple DHTML floating div, and javascript to do the looping to build an 8 bit pallet.
Music this morning is powered by Sirius. Currently playing Incubus - Anna-Molly.

Very sweet, I'm seriously considering Sirius (considering how much radio I listen to) does it work indoors ok?
Also, listening to some
Trail of Dead this morning...
Group X - Schwfifty Five

Sure, as long as you place the antenna in view of the southern sky. That's my biggest annoyance is the massive reliance on line-of-site with the satellite, i know that it needs too as well its a satellite radio, but it limits its portability. Its not like I could take it over to Curtis's for Heroscape
Sirius - Octane Channel 20 Marilyn Manson - The Beautiful People
Freaking AWESOME! :)
I'm not sure you guys WANT to know what I'm listing to... I have a rather eclectic collection, lots of stuff you guys would listen to, and a lot more stuff you wouldn't ;)
ie: Now Playing (actually paused)
DC ~Da Capo~ Anime - Original Sound Track Vol 1 - 02 - yureru kokoro ( ?`?E???E???[?ہE?` - ?h?????S )
I can't tell you what is in the queue since I have 5 days (2387 tracks) worth of music in the play list, set to go semi randomly, favoring "not recently played" tracks.
Hearts by Yes (I'm still on my Yes kick).
Grace by Mitsumune Nobuyoshi on Mahou Sensei Negima! Original Soundtrack! (yes my 5 day playlist is still going, oh, did I mention its the "non kareoke anime ost/soundtrack" playlist? ;))
Oh, took too long to write...
A sai en by Yoko Kanno on Macross Plus Original Soundtrack II
And one more:
trip city by Scott Matthew on Ghost in the Shell - SAC - Be Human
So Divided - And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead
...i really should be listening to some Billy Talent to prep for tonights concert, but I'm actually more interested in seeing Rise Against live.
I actually have winamp playing for a change, so I may as well put my bit in here...
Currently streaming the vocal trance channel from www.di.fm, currently playing: Sandero - Vocal Trance Mix
Or, you can click this link, and see the current track at the time as well as the last 8 played...
http://www.di.fm/vocaltrance/
"Digitally Imported, dot com" totally rocks. I personally prefer "Hardcore" or "Euro Dance", get a bit sick of the banal vocal trance sometimes. :)
Just to show that I'm not a _complete_ weirdo:
Pretty Noose by Sound Garden on Down on the Upside
I also used to listen to a lot of di.com and last.fm (Amarok has builtin support for all of last.fm's features \o/, and a bunch of "default" "Cool-Streams" in the Radio Streams section of its Playlist Playlist (*cough*), including some di.com, virgin radio, and a bunch of other stuff)
I like how most of us have a taste that is a mixture of completely unique stuff most others haven't heard of (or at least want to listen to) combined with some "big name artists". My guess is this new documentary (http://forums.righteouswrath.com/index.php/topic,4777.0.html) won't be as shocking to the RW crowd as it might be to, say, regular viewers of MTV.ca etc. :)
Branle - Claude Gervaise (1500s)
Queued:
Up I arose in Verno Tempore - Anonymous (c. 1490)
Let not us that young men be - Anonymous (c. 1520)
Pavane / Ronde / Pavane / Ronde / Ronde - Tielman Susato (c. 1561)
Nothing like some ancient music to ground ones self.
Like I said in the post just above ya -- never heard of 'em, but uniquely "you". :) Diversity is great.

I swap around between vocal trance, classic trance, and the goa / psy channel usually.
WOW.
Guess what 17-minute song K-Rock just finished playing?
Yes, the amazing FULL version of Iron Butterfly's classic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida_%28song%29). :o 8)
The wicked stereo back-and-forth drum part is my fave, methinks.
-can you imagine trying to convince a record company to pick up such a unique song/artist like this nowadays? :(
Tool comes to mind
Wow, I've heard of the band by name but didn't know they were prog rock/metal and put forth such a well received sophomore album (http://www.amazon.com/%C3%86nima-Tool/dp/B00000099Y/sr=8-1/qid=1169847721)*. Might have to check it out.

* 4.5 out of 5 stars ... based on 1110 reviews. I don't think I've ever seen an album with 1110 reviews. :o
3rd album 4.5/5 1600+ reviews http://www.amazon.com/Lateralus-Tool/dp/B00005B36H/ref=pd_bxgy_m_text_b/002-3314945-8348031
4th 4/5 800+ reviews http://www.amazon.com/10-000-Days-Tool/dp/B000EULJLU/ref=pd_sim_m_3/002-3314945-8348031
They came to mind more or less because you pointed out a 15 minute track from a "unique artist", Tool is very unique and look at the length of their songs...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/10,000_Days
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%86nima
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lateralus
...they are always pushing the clock well beyond the 3:30 norm.
Which would you say is a good single-album-purchase for Tool newbs like myself? Something that is re-listenable in the background without making you want to jump up and skip a song (some albums are great except for 2 or 3 songs, you know what I'm talking about...)
?nima to me was their best. Tool is a strange band to listen to for me, its hard to listen to as their doesn't seem to be a real setting which demands Tool. Maybe sitting in the dark smoking pot, but other then that.
?nima by far and away.
I've also been recommended Alice in Chains (I was/am a big fan of Queensryche, to give you an idea)... if you enjoy AiC would you suggest the "breakout" album "Dirt", or the more mellow "Jar of Flies" (or soemthing else) -- as a complete album (not just "a few good songs", there I go again ::) )
Amazon reviewer Angry Mofo "angrymofo" sez (http://www.amazon.com/Essential-Alice-Chains/dp/B0001LYH7U): The truly "essential" Alice In Chains consists of two albums, Dirt and Jar Of Flies. Those two albums cost less put together than this one. So, if you don't know anything about this band, it would be more logical to get those two albums instead of this compilation. And if you're a big fan of the band, then you probably already have the box set, so this compilation will contain nothing that you aren't familiar with.
I like Tool, however they are not exactly something something I can just sit and listen too all the way through an album. Not something you would want to have playing in the background at work, but maybe with some headphones on.
I love the music video for Sober....
You can check out a few of the music videos on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Tool+Sober&search=Search
Yup Lazy, basically my point about Tool, its like a strange alt-rock-prog-rock opera. I tried to listen to 10,000 days while riding the train and I just couldn't do it, it was like I was missing the point
The Postal Service - Such Great Heights (Sirius - Channel 21 "Alt Nation")
This band is really impressing me, i downloaded their album and its very groovy and well put together.

I checked out The Postal Service - Such Great Heights when there was a little thing going around how the Apple/Intel ad was shot for shot almost identical to the Such Great Heights music video in places. It happens that both had the same director.
Max Webster -- Lip Service
my conscience.
Oh, sorry, was just responding to the thread title. ;)
If you asked me last week, I woulda answered "my negative self-talk" so I guess that's an improvement? :p
Canadian Idiot - Weird Al - Straight Outta Lynwood
TUN3R.com -- the COOLEST NetRadio interface EVER! 8) 8) 8)
http://tun3r.com/
It's almost like StumbleUpon for streaming audio...
(Dial spot C3 to explain WTF this rad thingie actually is)
Many are streams from foreign* countries... TOTALLY reminds me of the old days playing around with a shortwave radio with a 3 inch diameter analog dial ;)

* There is a "filter" functionality in the TR corner, also you can focus on scanning thru only a certain genre (80s, Techno, Jazz, Classical, Jungle etc.) -- even has a "RANDOM" and "<< >>" easy-browsing ability! 8) +a "Boss" button which goes to "Coogle" ;)
K16 and M23 might be of interest to a couple of you... (you can "Enter a dial coordinate (like M37) into search to zip directly there.")
Sirius Radio Online. Thanks to my buddy Ted!
