I plan on going this year, I don't think I can volunteer this time though.

I'll probably upgrade my video card just before Frag, and perhaps my power supply too if the vid card requires more juice then my X850Pro AGP.  Current price on eBay for the card is $70 to $100 , and it'll be cheaper by the summer, plus I'll give you a deal since you're a friend.

I'm in. I might not attend all the days though; I'm eating up extra vacation time to move this year.

Man I need to overhual my PC. First thing to go: my motherboard. The thing is causing increasing issues during boot and it'd cost me less to buy a new board with 2 GB memory sticks than to try and upgrade above the 1GB of DDR RAM that's compatible with my current board. Blech.

Then come the casemods. New better quality fan for my case door and I'll finally mount that Jet Engine fan that I won at last Fraga.

Hmm, just so you know you can put faster DDR ram in your system than what is in the manual. If your manual states DDR 2100 or 2700 you can actually put DDR 3200, or even 4200 in it, they are backwards compatible. They just will not run any faster than your system can go.

Replacing your main board normally means replacing the RAM AND the CPU if you are truely moving UP.

That's the intention. There's very little point for me staying at the level of performance I'm at now; I'm not happy with it. Yes, it works but it can't "keep up" to my expectations while running games or programs. Unfortunately this'll might mean my PC will require a different video card if I switch to PCI-E. My current card is the AGP slot type (All-in-wonder 9800XT).

How fast is your processor?  Is your motherboard really hard limited to only 1 gb of RAM?  If a video card would help, you can get  an x1950Pro AGP for $299 (http://www.memoryexpress.com/index.php?PageTag=&page=file&memx_menu=EmbedProductDetail.php&DisplayProductID=9479&SID=http://www.memoryexpress.com/index.php?PageTag=&page=file&memx_menu=EmbedProductDetail.php&DisplayProductID=9479&SID=) at Memory Express.

Thats deffinitely better than my 9600xt, hopefully it doesn't have the same stupid bug in the linux drivers thats been annoying me.

Still though, I'd need to get a real upgrade to play some of the new games, like SupCom. Specially if I wanted dual monitor. I just have no idea what I'm going to be doing with my current "spare" cash atm, I'm _supposed_ to be investing in something with a friend, but he doesn't seem to be doing any work on it _at all_, so I'm starting to get a little frustrated. Also, I don't have PCI-E, so It'd have to be AGP :o (I have a SocketA board still, and thanks to Mr Analog, its not anywhere near as unstable as it used to be! THANKS Mr.A!!)

So yeah, my hardware upgrades are sorta on hold, and I'm not even certain I'd have the money in time for fraga anyhow. It's all up in the air. Rather frustrating.

I don't think Melbosa or I really need to say we're going...  we're both on staff again this year.  Also - I'll likely be on night-shift duty and up at the head table (dunno Mel's plans).  I need to know if you guys would still want a reserved seating section, and for how many?

Yeah was thinking I might be up at the head table again as well, as I think you and I are doing alternating Night Shifts.

Title: Re: Fraga! So who's going?
Post by: Tom on March 26, 2007, 11:04:45 AM
Well, I've registered. But man, the price has gone up? $75? Man.
Title: Re: Fraga! So who's going?
Post by: Melbosa on March 26, 2007, 11:10:06 AM
Its only $10 more than last year.  Utilities have gone up that much alone for the event.  $75/4 = $18.75/d, cheaper than the movies.

People complain about this every year.  Cost of living goes up every year; so does the event.  Live with it.  (not directing this solely at you Tom, just watched the bitchers last night on IRC go on and on about this - so a bit of a rant here).
Title: Re: Fraga! So who's going?

Heh. It did seem a bit of a jump. I ended up picking up a shirt and hat as well so I look 1337 the first day (or when ever they arrive). I think I only had to pay $60 last year for a non early bird entrance. so 75 for early seemed a little off. but meh. Not that important.

I'm booked.  Perhaps we could grab a table closer to the main table, for the convenience of Mel and Cova.

Got in under the first 200 here is hoping for the big prizes this year, I could use an upgrade.

Anyone notice how few sub 1000 reg ID's have registered?

I would like to see some stats on how many people return every year. Seems like there is lots of turn over looking at the reg numbers.
Title: Re: Fraga! So who's going?
Post by: Tom on March 26, 2007, 02:21:33 PM
Not that I'd be below 1000, but I couldn't find my old username/pw/email, so this account is a new one. If any of the staff here can fix it, I'd be under Mauler/Thomas Fjellstrom :D

The forum usually has Frag counts though only to a few years ago (I think).
Title: Re: Fraga! So who's going?
Post by: Cova on March 26, 2007, 03:16:46 PM
Those ID numbers that are all up in the 1000's haven't been re-started at #1 for ... a LOT of frags, at least 5 or 6.  And there are a LOT of people who come every year, but can't remember their password when they go to register so they just make a new account.  I'd almost say that during frag sitting at the reg desk, when random_noob_038 walks up and I type in their name to find 'em, it's more likely to find multiple accounts for their name than just a single one.

As for who's coming..., lets see if we can't turn this thread into a #.

Mr. Analog - confirmed
Lazybones - confirmed
Ustauk - confirmed
Tom - confirmed
Tonnica - confirmed
Fruiteater - confirmed (Nick from last year - the guy with the clear case that was just down a couple seats from Mel)

makes 6 so far (not counting staff).  Would you still want to sit back-to-back down 2 rows as we normally do with only that many?  or just 6 in a row along one row?

As for location - go take a look at the seating page and decide if you want to move from where we were last year.  If you want to be over on the side by the stairs/exits (far from the entrance) you have to be at least 3 or 4 rows away from the head table, basically where we were last year.  That area reserved for "seating admin" was put there just cause thats the area I had last year, it's available for RW, though it'll likely be shrunk down to 8 or 10 seats depending on how many are going.  To get closer to the head table you'd have to move down near the area reserved for 'gatekeeper seating' - personally I think they got the good area reserved there already.  If you move closer to head table you end up with all the foot traffic right behind you, and crowding whenever there's an event on the projectors (though you'd be close to said events too without having to get up).

Anyways, if you want to move away from where the reserved area is - just start grabbing seats in that area asap to keep others out, and I'll get the reservation moved around when I can.

I'd like to suggest an area that will be the lowest temperature, maybe by one of the large doors that may or may not open. And possibly not near the areas that the stinkier geeks ;)

That only depends on if you are on the side with broken AC or not, which is random. Where we have been isn't too bad, I would rather be on the end of a row than the middle of one.

However being near the head table on an outer row might be nice.

I don't really mind where we sit. Less traffic would be nice, and being near the head table would have rather a lot of traffic.

p.s. Thank you for not making a snide remark about my previous cleanliness issues and current bo issues.... ;D

I'll also add that the spot we've been in the last few years was chosen for a specific reason.  Based on Shaeleam's time working there, thats one of the few areas that the roof of the building doesn't leak.  I don't know where the other non-leaky places are, but after it rained during setup last year I do know there are some leaks around where the tourny area was last year.
Title: Re: Fraga! So who's going?
Post by: Ustauk on March 26, 2007, 04:25:52 PM
Given our prior spot didn't get too much foot traffic, and aint that' far from the head table, plus the fact we know it doesn't leak (yet, :knocks on wood:), we might as well stay put, if that's the consensus.

So, again I ask where are we sitting?

Ok... a little miscommunication between Sphincter and myself - I thought that area was reserved for me, turned out to be reserved for them.  Friggen bugs in the new site and not having proper reservation names.

Anyways - the next row over is now reserved for us.  Aatis is in it right now - dunno if you remember him or not but he's my youngest brother, and I'll get him to move down to the lower part of the area.  There'll be a bunch of his friends in it too.

And that gap between the rows there may not be accurate.  I don't plan on you guys who are back-to-back being 10 feet apart.

Well, I'm using FF 2.0.0.3 and I had zero problems

-Make sure you are logged in
-Make sure you select a seat in the area designated "Cova"
-Make sure you are looking for the button at the bottom of the screen rather than the side.

I'm logged in, I've selected a seat in that area (and tried other green seats), and there is no button. anywhere. I have 2.0.0.1 if that makes a difference.

Ok, I'm just an idiot. I _was_ logged in. But it seems firefox forgot about it.

That repeat posting thing is a known issue, hence the top news post on the front page says:
QuoteHowever, we are experiencing some minor issues with Firefox
And not the only known issue with the site + firefox right now.

As to your problem, glad you got it resolved - you've also nicely described exactly the problem people will get if they are not in the seating group.  Everyone listed in the post I made a bit back with the list of names has been added to the seating group.  If you aren't in the group, you can't choose a seat in the reserved area (clan name doesn't matter).  Post in this thread or PM me if you need to be added to the seating group (please include frag username).

As I mentioned in an earlier post - Aatis and a few of his friends will also be in the reserved seating area.  Unfortunately right now I don't have accurate counts of how many people are in his group, or the RW group.  So for now I've told him to put himself and his friends in the lower 8 seats, and RW will take the upper 8 seats.

I do expect that there will be extra seats in that area - when its closer to the event and the attendance is more confirmed, everyone can spread out a little with the extra seats space.  But for now for organizational purposes, if we can keep the top/bottom split with RW and Aatis's friends it makes it easier for me to keep track of everything.

Also - if there are a LOT of extra seats, I'll need to give them back.  Especially if the event is getting full.
