Title: Sony's latest stupidity
Post by: Cova on April 17, 2007, 04:21:58 PM
Since it's written so well, I'm just gonna paste it right off doom9..

QuoteDefine irony: Sony has just come up with another way to corrupt DVDs (they call it copy protection) that makes discs not work on their own players anymore. Well done Sony :)

I like the Sony tech response to the problem so far: "Buy a new DVD player..."

Well, Sony finally got it right and is now going to fix the existing burns and supply replacements to those who want them.

DRM splained (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARccOS_Protection).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_DVDs_Protected_by_ARccoS shows a pretty sparse list, considering the # of films that are out on DVD nowadays. (I have "The US vs. John Lennon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_U.S._vs._John_Lennon)", a fantastic and sad and inspiring documentary, but a non-Sony DVD player so of course it played fine ;D )
