Title: How do you get the soundtrack off a DVD?
Post by: Mr. Analog on March 14, 2008, 05:38:30 PM
Robert Israel has composed some amazing unreleased accompaniments to old Harold Lloyd classics that I would love to have a backup of that I could listen to while doing mind numbing work.

Any quick n' easy tools?

Quick and easy, tape recorder and your home speakers.  Other than that, Cova might have something for you.

Well, yes, I could just take a jack from my audio out and plug it into the audio in port but then I have to sit there in real time transferring it (like I do with LPs or cassettes).

I was hoping for a software solution.

I'm going to assume that this is a full video DVD, and not DVD-Audio.

1. Rip the DVD to your HD to remove CSS encryption.
2. Open it in DGMPGDec
3. Demux the audio tracks - this will give you the Dolby Digital AC3 streams without losing any quality at all.

It's been quite a while since I've worked with regular DVD's - I'm not sure what the best tool is for ripping anymore, I used to use DVD-Decrypter.

Googling around you can probably find guides on how to use those tools.  You can download them all from the Download page at www.doom9.org (sorry - doom9 has lots of javascript to make direct-links not work most of the time)

Ripping DVDs is as easy as AnyDVD (latest version) + DVD-Decrypter (still useful with AnyDVD).
