I've had it with my @% blowing up. First random bits of hardware and other things over the years, then my firewall motherboard last week, and my lawnmower self destructs today. Sick and fn tired of it.</rant>
Sorry to hear it, that sucks.
That sucks man :(
Tom, rent yourself the campy film "Maximum Overdrive (http://images.google.com/images?q=Maximum%20Overdrive&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi)".
You'll feel better about things. ;D
PS: the more hours/week tinkering with hardware and gadgets, the higher probability that it will puke on you and drive you crazy with all its notworkingthewayitshould-ness.
Yeah, I was seriously pissed off when I saw my lawnmower melting its own wire insulation. Wasnt a very pleasant smell either. I sort of expected the firewall to kick it at some point, the chipset fan failed a while back, and I just recently replaced it, but you know what they say, once it starts, it don't stop.

I dunno... I've found myself WAAAAAAAAY more patient with software now that I work with @%ed software all the time...
When hardware breaks, it's a challenge that gets me excited (unless I was doing something important with it).

Yeah, I don't mind trying to solve a problem. But the lawn mower was easy to diagnose. Not enough insulation on the main contacts. It melted, and @% fell into the motor causing it to start arcing as well. Firewall was easy too. No smoke, but I did get a whiff of "exploding", so when I took the cover off to look, it wasn't hard to find two large capacitors next to the cpu with crud on them.
I could probably replace the caps with no problems, but I'm never going to be sure that the board, chipset, cpu or ram are any good any more. Also, its an old box thats a mix of my old Athlon 900, and Lazy's 1.1 from back in the old days.. do I really need it sucking up power? I don't think so :)
I am expecting a large GST rebate this year though (finally did my taxes. got both my 2006 and 2007 returns on tuesday), so I can finally get the /quality/ test server I've been drooling over. replace my two other Athlon XP power suckers, and the old firewall with one box.

As Homer would say, it's a crisitunity! (Crisis + Opportunity)
