I was repartitioning my second hard disk last night with the recommended Seagate disk utility and it decided to additionally repartition my C drive.
I've lost everything that was on C :(
Games and software I can reinstall but all my artwork was there, about a year's worth of PSD files. GONE.
Suffice to say I am not a happy camper...
. . .
I've since reformatted, but I know there are some deep recovery tools floating around, any suggestions?
Yikes! Hope you find something... At least the drive isn't damaged, so whatever tool you find won't have to deal with scratched sectors and stuff.

Yup!
This is exactly what I wanted to avoid this week...
Only tools I know of won't work now that you have formatted, sorry. Maybe someone else has something.
Since you've already formatted and started using it, any tool that exists will have a hard time finding anything.
edit: like photorec don't let its name fool you, it isn't just for saving photos, it'll scan for any number of "magic" numbers/patterns that start off different files and attempt to rescue them.
If the tool only changed the partition table you should still be able to recover, if however it put a new FAT or NTFS file system on the drive it can not be recovered with simple software. You will however need to attache your hd to another working PC to run the tools against the drive or if you can create a http://www.ubcd4win.com/ CD you can boot with that
You can also download the windows tools for the ubcd4win and run them on another PC

Ok! I was able to recover about 50% of my PSD files (which is good).
Thanks Lazy for the link, I used some of the tools there as well as a piece of software called "Recover My Files".
Time to buy another backup drive!
Hiren's boot CD has a few of them

"Ontrack easyrecovery" worked for me, but mine wasn't formatted, it just failed.
good luck!

e.g. "once a while"...
it's not like I'm spamming....
checking here once a while as it's a nice adult/mature forum.
(just wanted to check if he managed to recover)

Well I was able to bring back some stuff, but most of my recent work was all lost :(
Oh well, live and learn I guess.
