So I saw this headline for an article:
Minister of Industry Stands Up for Consumers on Text Messaging Fees
and I thought, "Yay!"
Then I read the article here: http://www.ic.gc.ca/cmb/welcomeic.nsf/261ce500dfcd7259852564820068dc6d/85256a5d006b97208525749f00625a95!OpenDocument (http://www.ic.gc.ca/cmb/welcomeic.nsf/261ce500dfcd7259852564820068dc6d/85256a5d006b97208525749f00625a95!OpenDocument). Yeah, the headline is sorta misleading! "Stand up", to me, means that they're doing something about it, rather than meeting the telcos and meekly requesting to pretty-please-with-a-cherry-on-top think about maybe reconsidering the possibility of charging for unwanted spam text messages but don'tworrythegovernmentwon'tstepin, itsaprivatemarket!
I think the gov't should step in as much as possible till it really is a free market. Should the telcos want the Gov't to stop stepping in, they should encourage competition and let more competitors jump in, instead of merging and killing competitors.
imo anyhow.
