While enjoying a fine cigar and whiskey on the backyard this afternoon I caught the final 5 finalists on CBC Radio 2 and was genuinely fired up about a couple of them and so checked out the page:
http://anthemchallenge.cbc.ca/
My favourites are #2 and #5
The second one, by 13 year old composer Robert Fraser Burke is pretty kick ass and #5 is by Colin Oberst a composer living in Beaumont.
So I'm torn over whom to vote for, but I'm leaning toward #5, but what do you guys think?
Well I think 4 will win simply because they are from Quebecsucks.
I found after listening to 1 more then once it really grew on me.

1 isn't bad, I could listen to that over and over...
The more I listen to #5 the more I like it. There's something distinctly Canadian to the sound. #2 is good too, it's punchy and it would be a real awesome story if such a young composer was chosen.
#1 reminds me of the anime Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gurren_Lagaan). It's probably the guitar work.
Believe in me who believes in you who believes the Oilers can win this season! (lol)
So what are your folks' thoughts about the 2 finalists? (Mr. Analog predicted 'em! Well done!)
Most of the morning radio show folks were saying, essentially, "I hope Canadians vote on the merits of the SONG ITSELF, and not the songWRITER" (in other words...)

My trouble is I want them both, maybe as a medley?

I just hope the voters think about 5, 10, 20 years from now which song they would NOT get sick of hearing every weekend. The bagpipes, or the talented young kid? ... I hate them both!
j/k, I think it's cool that they made it to the final 2 but Randy Bachman didn't even get in the top 5 ;)
Damn out of the top two, I think Robert's was by far better. Colin's sounds like something for the stampeded.

YES!
PS: young Robert's was a good tune also, but seemed more like a movie soundtrack song than a regular HNIC starter.
Meh

Thanks for pointing out the obvious :P
I wonder what would happen to your post if I USED MY FIREBALL!

I was just glad the "kid" didn't win (although the video profile made it clear he's not just a lame-ass prodigy, he's an EXPERIENCED prodigy with like a decade of musical training and who knows how many years of songwriting... so I'm sure he's got a big future ahead of him.)
