Title: Doctor Who Fourth Season
Post by: Thorin on October 10, 2008, 08:48:03 PM
I have spotted Doctor Who's fourth season on TV!  It's on at 9pm tonight on channel 4, good ol' CBC delivers me the goods!

http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tvlistings/ZCProgram.do?method=getDetail&pgmId=EP007501780049&sch=1223694000000&stn=15941&chn=4

Unfortunately I missed the Christmas special and two or three episodes so I'll probably go "find" them online to watch later.

Oooh, episodes 1, 2, and 3 of the 4th season are still available online at CBC:

I know they'll eventually roll the older ones off, so I might just watch them tonight or tomorrow!

I'm excited!

Yeah, Pirate Bay has nice Dr. Who collections.  If you want to watch the episodes from earlier this season, they're much better quality from Pirate Bay than they are from CBC.

Because I knew I'd end up missing episodes during the season, I just downloaded them all and watched them all.  Wowie!  It's a good season, with a good ending!

Hey, I'm busy downloading a complete Fourth Doctor torrent.  I'll be busy for a long time!  Plus, there's a Fifth Doctor and Sixth Doctor compilation waiting for me to download, as well.

You know, TV stations should just offer download services where we pay 25 cents per episode of a program - they'd make a killing, even with pirates downloading for free.  I wonder if the Bit Torrent system works with restricting access per payment?

That's for sure, especially if it was DVD quality rips we're talking about. Heck I've been downloading a bunch of cartoons I want to catch up on but has become impossible any other way because either they aren't on DVD or if they are it's only a few episodes.

Trial of a Time Lord just came out on DVD and I want to buy it but places like HMV don't carry it, so hearing that there is a Sixth Doctor torrent is very intriguing.

The downloads are pretty slow, though...  The Fourth Doctor download, for instance, has been going three days and I'm only at 6% so far.

Well, 4th Doctor is a lot of episodes...

I'm used to slow downloads, sometimes it takes days to get the stuff I want.

Yeah...  178 files all in all.  Many of the serials are split into four separate AVIs, just like how they were shown on TV.  I'm expecting this download to take a couple of weeks or more.  I'll probably seed it for a month or more after that.  Gotta spread the love!

Absolutely, I seed for usually a week or so if it's something that was hard to get.

Okay, my Fourth Doctor download has been going for 19 days now, and I'm still only at 64%.  At least there's 40+ seeders online most of the time, so I know it'll finish eventually.

I prioritized the first ten files.  Each file is one aired part of a serial, with serials usually being four parts (but sometimes two parts or six parts), each running about 25 minutes.  I watched part 1 (of 4) of the first serial, named "Robot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robot_(Doctor_Who))", with my son last night.  For all the cheesy special effects, he was completely hooked within two minutes.  That's a testament to the storytelling that happens in Doctor Who, considering that my son likes to watch the fluid, organic transformations in the latest Transformers movie, and those are visually spectacular compared to "Robot"'s K1:

I think I might've gotten a Doctor Who convert in my house!

And now some sad news, David Tennant is resigning from Doctor Who, and the 2009 season is only going to have four "special" episodes with him as the Doctor...  No confirmation on who will replace him, although there's lots of speculation about two guys.  I sure hope they don't pick another David Eccleston!  He just didn't do it as The Doctor for me...

I grabbed all 4 seasons of the NEW doctor who as well. I watched the first part of the library episode that was on TV and had to to see what happened in the second part.. Garbed all the other episodes while I was at it.

I found Blink to be an extremely scary episode...

An' yeah, the new seasons are good, although I didn't like Eccleston as the Doctor.  Tennant plays him much better.

Now, are you willing to download and watch all the Torchwood and Sarah Jane Adventures episodes?  (them's the spinoffs...)

Y'know I do want to check out Torchwood.

Being a longtime Whovian I have to say that the new series has greatly impressed me, both with its dedication to the existing universe and way of telling stories and for its way of somehow hauling Dr. Who into the 21st Century.

I thought both Tennant and Eccleston were fine Doctors and I'm quite interested to see how the BBC will replace Tennant when he leaves.

So far this has been (I think) the most successful run of Dr. Who since the Tom Baker Era.

Damn you, you had to mention the spin offs, of course there happened to be an ad for them in the 4th season. Started watching Sarah Jane, and am waiting for Torchwood to download.

I do find it interesting that Dr. Who is a prime time targeted show, Sarah Jane is a kids targeted show and Torchwood is a late night mature targeted show.

Also seem like the Sarah Jane episodes are ways 2 part episodes as it is only a 30 min show.

I wouldn't call that just an ad, Lazy.  There were direct tie-ins, I'd say...

The new actor for Doctor Who has been announced, it's gonna be Matt Smith.

Quote from: http://www.vancouversun.com/entertainment/chooses+young+newcomer+11th+doctor/1143481/story.html
Lead writer and executive producer, BAFTA-award winning writer Steven Moffat, who is taking over from Russell T. Davies, said it took a special actor to play the doctor, a role first filled in 1963 by William Hartnell.

[..]

"You need to be old and young at the same time, a boffin and an action hero, a cheeky schoolboy and the wise old man of the universe," said Moffat.

"As soon as Matt walked through the door and blew us away with a bold and brand new take on the Time Lord, we knew we had our man."

I still wish Tennant would've done three or four more seasons...
