Title: SOAP: The S Stands for Simple
Post by: Thorin on July 21, 2009, 03:21:40 PM
So I'm busy learning about REST and how it compares with SOAP, as my company is looking to learn new development techniques to help the developers grow their technical skills.  I've done quite a bit of reading about REST so far today, and the more I read the more it makes sense.

And then I stumbled across this gem, which sums up what has happened to SOAP:

The S Stands for Simple (http://72.249.21.88/nonintersecting/2006/11/15/the-s-stands-for-simple/?year=2006&monthnum=11&day=15&name=the-s-stands-for-simple&page=)

Have many of you worked with SOAP or Web Services over SOAP?  I didn't start to understand SOAP envelopes until after it got complex and the tools were supposed to magically work for me.  And believe you me, when the tools didn't magically work for me, it hurt!  Anyway, if you've worked with SOAP the linked article will make you laugh and cry at the same time.

lol wow that felt like something Douglas Adams might have written. With the discussion being between Ford Prefect and one of the idiots (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_races_and_species_in_The_Hitchhiker's_Guide_to_the_Galaxy#Golgafrinchans). ;D

e.g.
Quote
Ford: Does anyone actually use these other transports?

Golgamoron: Uhm, no. But the point is you can.
