...somehow makes me think of "E.N.G. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E.N.G.)"...
but what really makes this find so full of win is some of the bang-on comments:

This @% is so baller. I wanna rush this segment back from SkyCopter 1 down to the uplink mobile transmission truck and beam it back to HQ where they will break this story out to the masses!
i love the obviously stock footage of the building on fire and the pointless dramatic camera shots.
They make all the outside shots look like cheap sets! Hell yeah!
This makes me want to watch some @%ing news right this minute!!!!!
i'd go on a 4 state killing spree just to be on this newscast
"news! because you can't @%ing stop us!"
Whoever directed that was brilliant. Clumsy in parts but fast and direct. I like the little touches too (the chess board near the TV implying that "smart people" watch this news broadcast).
The down side, of course, is how can the news possibly live up to that kickin' intro?
Hey, you know how that video is all punchy and upbeat? Take a look at this campaign video for 2008 Presidential candidate Mike Gravel:

Watching that was like staring at a fish in an aquarium.

Watching that was like staring at a fish in an aquarium.
A fish that is floating upside down?
oh PS: maybe they hoped that it would spread around the 'net with some mashups as fake "thoughts" of The Candidate (in the style of Scrubs, maybe)? Along the lines of the viral and enduring success of the "Hitler mad about ___" video edits?
on the topic of news and the 80s...
here's a British news story* covering computer games. From "Look Around You (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Look_Around_You#Episode_5)"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBcrTucxiRc
(nudity warning; but British, so...)
Amazing the difference in style of production, compared to, for example, this American series (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLpP2uh-zmE) (the classic "Computer Chronicles, with Stewart Sheif-it oops I mean Chef-fay" -- with "superstar" guest Gary Kildall (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Kildall)!)
* in case you haven't guessed, LAY is a spoof series along the lines of The Day Today or (the brilliant) Brass Eye. more of LAY here: http://www.youtube.com/user/hippynmagic#grid/user/465808D68994E85D
Big fan of "Look Around You" here, I thought I posted all the videos to the form a long time ago...

I think you posted a handful, now that I think about it... but the fact that the spoof britcom was not just more interesting but more polished and watchable, vs. Computer Chronicles (which I admit I watched every week back in the early 80s, lol) ... kinda funny, had to post that LAY link for sure.

Haha, yeah, that's right!
TVO was just so awesome back in the day, nothing like it today.
