I just CAN NOT BELIEVE they ended up going with that name... when my Apple-a-holic friend at work told me they DID go with that name, I expected sooooo many netizens to be making jokes thanks to MAD TV's parody of all things Apple (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFNQE_TzQNI).

Apparently there's some conjecture floating around that someone in marketing didn't like the "iSlate" moniker because it's particle words are "is late" so they chose the infinitely worse iPad.
I hope it holds up for those "heavy days" at work...

and PS: re. The Name (giggle) ... I guess "iTablet" was already trademarked so they couldn't use that without mega-payoff a-la "iPhone". I don't know why it even had to be "i-something", aren't we getting sick of this, I mean it's like back when M$ was all "Active-" everything, now it's "Live-" everything. Get some creative minds in marketing, yeesh...

No doubt. Its SO close. Though what I really want to do is load Plasma on it and see how it does. with KDE 4.4 you get "remote widgets" so you can use widgets that are on your desktop or where ever, and put them on any other plasma device. Remote System monitor? Check. Remote for Amarok? Check. Remote video player? Check.

Actually, iPad is already taken. Twice. Not really sure why they didn't go for iTablet. Probably didn't go for iSlate because it could also be read as Is Late ;D And if you consider apple has been working on this for what? 20 years? It is a bit late.
