Just when I thought "Marmaduke" was sinking to the lowest point of pointless film "adaptations"...

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN!!!
I mad this as a joke ages ago on Slashdot.
PLEASE do not BLAME ME
WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wimmer's involved apparently, so maybe there'll be some gunkata?
Uhh...
I am dismayed that they would think to make a Rock Em Sock Em Robots movie. I'm even more dismayed to read that there is already a robot-boxing movie in the works that RESER would compete with, called Real Steel (http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2010/06/15/real-steel-images-and-an-official-plot-synopsis-emerge/)!

And no sequel to Robot Jox? This is a travesty!
So should we be glad they aren't just more remakes? What next? Slinky the movie? How about light bright?

...I guess "Real Steel" actually IS* the Rockemsockem movie... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0433035/
sure makes me think of a certain cartoon episode...

... I cannot even BEGIN to fathom what properties will be raped next...
Though it begs the question: When you've made a film out of every crappy TV series / cartoon / game / sex position / occupation / biographies / etc will producers start making original works again??

sounds like it's not terribad as the premise would lead you to expect. Cuz it doesn't take itself seriously! (whew)

essentially an emotion-driven sports/underdog story, like Rocky meets AI/Blade Runner maybe?

...hey now, watch yourself! It's really not that bad of a movie, sure it hasn't aged as well as Blade Runner or Dr. Strangelove, but it's still a decent story...

hey now, forget all that, I just noticed you're bleeding!
btw, on-topic: Real Steel NOT inspired by Rockem Sockem Robuts (http://www.variety.com/review/VE1117946256/)! <-- a short story by Richard Matheson, used in an old Twilight Zone ep.
(and btw Matheson LIKES it! http://movies.ign.com/articles/119/1198602p1.html )
( better, more emotion-stirring, than Contagion!? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0433035/board/nest/189410039#189417446 )
Go. See. This. Movie.
(not joking. It really is good. Not Plan9 kind of 'good' either. And surprisingly no Wolverine references!)
You're one of THEM now
lol
I left the theatre feeling energized and joy-filled, throughout the film I enjoyed the ride, laughed out loud more than a few times, almost cried at least once, and a couple of times felt like standing up and cheering out loud along with the crowd on screen. So that's why I say it is a good movie.
I'm not saying it's [-- what was that movie called? Oh yeah --] Citizen Kane. (But maybe it's Citizen Kane mixed with ROCKY!)
I judge a movie by the "potential experience" for a film of that particular genre, i.e. "what were the film-makers going for -- did they succeed?" Here I feel they definitely exceeded my expectation for "this type of movie".
Heck, back when it first was talked about, we all thought it was rockem-sockem on the Big Screen (and mocked the idea), but nope it was partially inspired by a Richard Matheson short story "Steel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steel_(The_Twilight_Zone))", and the finished product had a very decent (and attention-keeping) plot and character development along the way (and the kid who plays the 11-year old son Max was amazingly talented right from his very first appearance and spoken line!) and there were very few moments where eye-rolling was induced.
cliffs: I was happily surprised that this movie wasn't at all what I expected when I first heard of it. But it also stood "on its own" (not just contrasted with low expectations).
lol just pokin' ya grumpy bear

for the record, the Rockemsockem movie was the OTHER one (with the Wolfgang/Wimmer rumours).
and I know you're only ribbing bro -- I posted "this is movie is good, go see it" because I really did feel that good after leaving the theatre (saw it with my son, he loved it too). The fight scenes were eally good too, but not surprising: http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2011/08/23/real-steel-sugar-ray-leonard/
Hehe, y'know now I have this urge to watch Rocky again...
