Title: iPhone in the toilet?
Post by: Stewie521 on September 21, 2010, 04:18:52 PM
I dropped my iPhone in the toilet...and everything is working fine, except for the touch screen, so I'm wondering if it's busted, cause there's obliviously no water in it, as I already let sit in rice.

HELP ME PLEASE!

I'm not sure if there is a way to remove the battery but that would be the first step (also, not turning on anything electrical after it has been immersed in water).

I know one trick where you can leave the phone in a bowl or bag of rice overnight (the rice will absorb the moisture).

I accidentally did this to my kettle and I just let it sit out for three or four days and the dryness in my house was enough to remove all moisture from it.

Too bad the iPhone you can't remove the battery.  I would wait a couple of days though before trying to use it :(

It was several days ago and it's been sitting in a bowl of rice since.  The touch screen isn't working.  Apple is now replacing "liquid-damaged" phones with refurbished ones for $229 CDN, under their "Out Of Warranty" service.  He'll probably end up having to buy the refurb phone.

If he leaves it dry out some more, the touch screen might fix itself. I'd say it should have been left in a /bag/ of rice for days. it doesn't soak up water that quickly. especially if you can't or didn't open the case up.

The rice trick needs many hours / days before your device is completely dried out.

http://www.ifixit.com/ might have some tips.
