And they have free trials on!
It's about damn time!
Looks like it WILL be available on xbox 360 soon ish... but is already available on PS3, Wii, iPhone, iPad, PC and MAC
If they have every episode of MST3K my bank account is screwed
Ok, so they DO have MST3K in abundant digital supply! (Wuh-oh!)
Also, I'm sure it's not news to many of you but Blockbuster declared bankruptcy.
The end of an era gentlemen!
Not sure I feel much sympathy for Blockbuster. They gouged the crap out of us for decades, and then seem surprised when people bailed as soon as other choices came along.
<Rant>
Netflix scares me a little bit. Goes to my outstanding rant about the lack of quality broadband in rural areas. Just another reason (albeit not a huge one sure) for people to hate the country and want to move to urban areas. With the average age of farmers in the 60's (at least according to reports I've seen), I hope science figures out a way that we can live without food. Seriously, this is going to be an issue within our lifetimes. </rant> ><
Oh yeah, no tears for Blockbuster, that's for sure. I remember so many little video store closures shortly after they moved into town and then when they finally had dominance they pared down their selection.
"Oh you want to see some crazy throwaway kung fu movie? Oh you'll have to go to Edmonton and find a video store that still has anything other than a first-run movie..."
Honestly though, times have changed, I can't even remember the last time I rented a movie (early 2000s for sure).
As for the future of rural development I can see large farming corporations taking over land for cheap as older farmers/ranchers pass on and then them just hiring people or shipping resources in to work on them (sort of like the mining industry).
I think the day of the farmer owner/entrepreneur is waning and will become a much more industrialized venture (especially if biofuel becomes profitable).

Indeed, that is the common consensus of the way farming will go. And even if they find the workers (Don't mistake modern farming as simple labour, it is the most complicated job I have ever had.), I am horrified by the thought of corporations having total control of our food supply.
P.S. I really am not trying to hijack this thread, just get's me going, sorry.
Can start a whole new thread if you'd like

Here's something that'll give you nightmares; imagine guys like Asshat running some startup farming gig.
I'm sure he'd find the finest Chinese ex-pats to run it hahaha
Wouldn't it be great if a decent business model met smart marketing?

Oh well...
Quote...the media footage in Toronto featured paid actors pretending to be happy customers in man on the street interviews? And the Netflix CEO also joked in an interview that Americans are ?somewhat self-absorbed? and won?t notice Canada has a streaming-only plan for $7.99 while the cheapest plan in the U.S. with unlimited online viewing is the $8.99 one-DVD-at-a-time plan?
He probably would have been right, if he hadn't actually said it.
FYI the fall xbox dashboard update contains Netflix Canada support, it is already in the early preview/beta.
Bwah bwuh...
Anyone tried the Wii version?

Anyone tried the Wii version?
It requires a disk, I requested one and recieved both a notice that there is a shortage due to demand and another that my disk has shipped.
Since my xbox outputs hd over digital hdmi vs the Wii doing 480p analog I will test the Wii but probably not use it for Netflix unless on another tv.
Do you have the wii's component/hd connector? I bet that'd give you netflix quality picture.

yes it is connected by component but it still only outputs 480p

Gah, that sucks. Though netflix isn't the highest quality. They seem to compress the living daylights out of the video.

I would say it is inconsistent, much like early DVDs, also not all of the content is even presented in HD. Several of the newer kids cartoons we have played where in HD and looked great.. where Elmo in grouch land had lots of artifacts... Its a mixed bag.

Nature of the beast I suppose.
Yeah, after getting my snazzy TV I found out all about the whole bizarre video output deal they had going there with the Wii. The 480p they offer is somewhat "hack-y". Not all of the arcade downloads are compatible.
FYI there is now a Disk free version for the Wii on the market place... So as of now the Wii and PS3 should be disk free and available... Xbox 360 will be available disk free with the fall update, or now if you are in the preview.
I have two problems. My "TV" (a 24" 1080p LCD monitor) only has VGA, DVI and HDMI inputs. The Wii doesn't support any of those :( And netflix seems to have a somewhat limited selection.

Get a PS3 then ;) hahaha (SERIOUSLY j/k)
I think the selection is pretty sweet actually: http://www.netflix.ca/Search?v1=mst3k that'd keep you busy for WEEKS
And the best part is: You don't have to wantonly violate copyright!

I dunno. Nearly every time I had an urge to watch something, or look something specific up, it didn't have whatever it was I was looking for.
Did some testing with the downloadable Wii version. The quality is very good, however high quality hd content downsamples very well where SD only content can get very blocky a times if it was already blocky. The downsampling seems to make it much worse.
The UI on the Wii is very clean and easy to read.

Though I haven't used it myself I've seen some screenshots and I have to agree, it seems very clean (which is important).

Also the navigation on the Wii uses the D-pad and Primary buttons so it is very exact, no waggle or dragging and pointing.

Always a plus!
I love WiiWare but I hate the store...
Want crazyness?
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/networking/the-internet-belongs-to-netflix/265
An estimated 20.6% of all North American internet traffic is Netflix. At arround 9:30pm in Canada however, it accounts for 95% of all bandwidth in use.

I'm not surprised actually, the video store is a dying animal. Music even moreso.
Shaw is gonna be offering a $12/month service (+5 for HD) and it won't impact your download caps. Lotsa interesting comments:

just for clarification:
"Watching content on Movie Club on a TV through a set top box via the Video On Demand interface would not count against a user?s data cap, as the content is transmitted through the traditional QAM cable TV system that VOD content moves through. Watching content through a computer or other device via Wifi goes through the Internet, and will count against a user?s cap."

That's for sure, Cable companies just don't seem to "get it", still!:
1. They think their existing VoD services are something people
want to use.
2. They think that people aren't going to notice the double dipping in the fine print (they set the caps and then charge for overages and then offer a service which depending on use can make you go over your "limit")
I've heard it said before but never really thought about it but, 5-10 years from now Cable TV providers will solely be glorified ISPs.

Well so far you can't watch live sports through Netflix or the like, when that happens though I have no reason to subscribe to Cable TV.

Personally
Blue Velvet is my fave, I have a copy of
Mulholland Drive and I quite enjoy it, to me
Lost Highway is just a mess, not sure what's gonig on at all. It had far too much sex in it (and yeah, I know it's supposed to be about two sisters, one of whom was a porn star) but still, I got bored and FF'd through a lot haha
