Well Libya war going on, Afghanistan war going on.... Too much war happening. I've already heard that Canada sent sent some CF-18's to Libya, and I've also heard that NATO might be getting involved, but if US gets involved, it might become a blood bath!
Last I heard the US is already there, and fired a ton of missiles to take down various targets. Far more than anyone else in the UN.
Oh joy! I feel sorry for the people down there!
On March 17th the UN passed Resolution 1973 (10 to 0 vote), which enacted a no-fly zone and ceasefire over Libya to stop (by any means necessary) Gadaffi-supporting Libyan military forces from shooting/bombing their own people. Libyan Foreign Minister Mussa Kussa declared a ceasefire, however attacks continued.
On Saturday March 19th French Allied aircraft entered the no-fly zone for recon to ensure that the ceasefire was in effect, it was not, and hostile targets were engaged the same day. Allied forces (mainly US and the UK) launched missile attacks on Libyan air defense to prevent future hostilities.
So far there are 0 foreign forces officially on the ground in Libya, I doubt we'll see war there unless Gadaffi really pushes the issue (by killing more of his own people). Best case scenario is the assistance already provided by the UN will keep the momentum of the revolution going and install a new government more representative of the people.
Here's the full text of UN resolution 1973: http://www.un.org/News/Press/docs/2011/sc10200.doc.htm
Apparently there are some people who are not allowed to travel or who have had their assets frozen by UN Member States.
Yep, I think much of the Gadaffi government foreign assets were seized pror to the resolution though, I seem to recall reading that in January.

do NOT attempt to have a quick look thru the Daily Show coverage the past week or so -- the way they address the whole "it's not quite military aggression, so the president doesn't have to worry" BS is so funny and bang-on you will end up watching every damn episode. It's painful satire, at its best; the staff vacation helped them sharpen their wits apparently.

Oh, it's only a matter of time before Ground Troops arrive. If Gadaffi was going to create a Democracy down there, it would've happened already, or the UN will make him.
Well, right now Gadaffi forces are shelling the crap out of the rebels. Expect news of airstrikes today, tomorrow.
I'm not so sure the US is as gung ho as you think, there's a few links between the rebels and Al Queda that makes the US uncomfortable. Imagine giving arms to the rebels that end up in the hands of the Taliban a few weeks later...
Ideally the UN takes out ceasefire violators evenly, but right now the only violators are Gadaffi forces (shelling rebels with artillery)
all this Gadaffi spelling reminds me of that classic old SNL Weekend Update bit.

dang, can't find the video of it on YT anymore, but you get the idea from here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gDfq2vxyXk
and omg a bunch of modern MSM articles pointing out the inconsistency in spelling, lol

That was quite possibly the most annoying video I've seen in a while... but i'm singing it now...

NATO forces may have recently airstriked some rebels by accident... And yet the rebels still want airstrikes...

Maybe NATO didn't like how the rebels fired on their own city by accident? ;D

There is two possible actions that could've happened that night... Rebels were celebrating a victory and were firing bullets into the air which drew NATO's attention.
ORIt was Gadaffi's troops and vehicles. However, the bodies and vehicles were blackend and burnt, and are not recognisable. And it doesn't help much that the Rebels and Gadaffi use the same vehicles...
OR accidents happen, it's not like it would be the first time (or last).
Battlefields are crazy places and it's hard to tell what's going on given the already loosely defined combat zones, I'm surprised there hasn't been more attrition really.
I just thought it was funny that the rebels managed to fire RPGs in the exact wrong/opposite direction, on their own city, rather than on Gadhafi's bunkers.
Well, I guess they could be drunk... I mean, you need a lot of moral to take place in a war, and that was a big solution in WWII, give the men alcohol, and they're not scared, they also die quicker though...

Uhhh what??
Regardless, I think the main problem is an oppressive dictator is trying to kill them EVERY DAY. That's pretty good motivation...
As for firing an RPG in the wrong direction, it's not like there's a big arrow painted on enemy targets. Heck I bet half of you would get lost walking around Edmonton WITH clearly marked roads and a classic grid pattern...
Indeed, but its something you want to be careful about. It could be your own house you hit.

Well you gotta remember that many of the rebels fighting there may not be from that city, even still, it's not as easy as you think to get even that right when they have little to no organization.

I'm not saying it'd be easy. But it is something /I/ would try and be careful about.
