The side quests in Legend of Zelda kinda distract Link, maybe too much... haha :D

That is always what I am thinking when I take side quests... In the Zelda games it doesn't seem as bad as lets say Mass Effect when there is supposedly a race against time and you are doing delivery run missions on the side.

Ocarina of Time was like that haha, "Oh! Giant face in the sky... OR FISHING YAAAAAAAAAAY!"

Actually giving sandbox-style free-roaming is one of those things that is pretty tricky to balance between story and fun game mechanics purposes. GTAIV handled it pretty well with the idea that between missions you'd fart around the city (heck, that's one of the most fun parts of GTA) this failed big time in Mafia II where a nice large city you could roam around in goes largely "un-roamed" because the story never gives you a breather.
