Your hometown officially has a reason to exist again ;)
I just hope the rumour ain't true about them changing the name from the Jets to ...the Freeze zomg
LOL "the Freeze"?
If I were 8, they would be called the "Freezies"... hey, do they even make freezies any more?

Yes. Mini size, regular size, and the jumbo size that we all grew up with.

Orange was the best flavour, I wonder if their jerseys will reflect this law of nature?

Oh I so want it to be the Jets again... but man they are dodging the question.
Most sports and non-sports news stories and blogs are saying pretty much "True North would be STUPIDEST IDIOTS EVER if they choose any other name but the Jets". So I wouldn't worry if I were you, it was always "bring back the Jets!" not "bring back an NHL team!"
I'd worry, when stuff like this comes up in Canada we as a society always pick the dumbest option...

Well in this case it seems "society" is picking "Jets". Its the dumb ass team owners and possibly city bureaucrats that may decide otherwise.
And people think I'm crazy for thinking "TPTB" are a bunch of incompetent morons.
ouch @ the fact that at the "news" conference there was no Official Name announced ???

I listened to the whole thing. They dodged that question with no hints.
Yeah, maybe they're trying to gauge how much of a backlash they'll get if they change to a different name.
I can understand that they'd want to take a different name to 1) increase collectibles revenue as everyone has to buy new sweaters and 2) to disconnect themselves from historical records. I just don't happen to agree with either point, that's all. I mean, all they have to do is have a new sweater design and a whole bunch of people will go buy them, and as for disconnecting from the past, well, the Jets have a storied and interesting past. Ever hear of the Golden Jet?
When I hear "Golden Jet" I think of the Blackhawks, but that would work too. The Golden Jets
Guy at the office suggested the Rejets.... he's a Flames fan.

Wow, very progressive of your department giving a job to someone whose brain is exposed directly to atmosphere... (j/k :D)
The Golden Jet was Bobby Hull. He played for the Winnipeg Jets back when they and the Oilers were in the WHA. He got signed for a million bucks (crazy money at the time!), and was credited as the person who made the WHA a true alternative to the NHL. Yeah, he played for the Black Hawks before that, but it was his switch from NHL to WHA that made the WHA suddenly get noticed. And he played for the Jets the rest of his career.
Yeah? Was anyone lost on this connection??
He was the Wayne Gretzky of 60s NHL, he only left because the pay was crappy (there's a switch eh?). Because he made the million dollar jump to the WHA he missed out on being part of the 1972 Summit Series.
I guess thinking about it now, calling the team "the Golden Jet" might dig up some old wounds hahaha
True North trademarks ?Whiteout?

QuoteThe owners of Winnipeg?s new and as-yet-unnamed NHL team have reassured fans the hockey club will not be called the ?Whiteout.?
Some... odd news...
imo combining the word "Jets" with "Whiteout" conjures up images of aircraft pilots having difficulty...
Maybe the colors are gonna change so a psychological-weapon "Whiteout" among the 14000 game attendees is the plan?
They're claiming to be trademarking the word so that no one else can claim True North owes them money if True North uses the word in the future.
I wonder how that works with the liquid paper Whiteout trademark?
Good point!

Now that's one overused term!
Unofficially from leaks it will be the "Jets" with a new look. Officially to be announced tonight during the draft after 5PM our time.

Just hope sanity prevails and it is "Winnipeg Jets" not "Manitoba Jets". Rumours, you know...
Word on the street is Manitoba Jets, we'll see later I guess
Hotties say I AM DISAPPOINT

So sounds like the unofficial leaked official pre-announcement rumours say (whew) it's WINNIPEG Jets, not Manny.
It's past 5pm Alberta time, why hasn't anyone posted an Official Link? ;)

That link doesn't officially state that they're called the Jets. However, I've got the draft on in the background and they just said, "The Winnipeg Jets are happy to select..."
http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/story/2011/06/24/sp-nhl-winnipeg-name.html
it's on CBC website, so "official" -- with 420 comments (and counting!) (one of them said "Smart move. Mind you, I have a feeling that they never really intended to go with another name." -- agreed!)
