It was a joke, about hats... that is the primary thing funding TF2 now. Hats do not impact game play.

Ahh :D okay heh

They have drop items and special craftable items that change the game a bit now. You can get stuff without having to grind by either picking them up, crafting them or buying them right from the in-game store.

Some of the weapons are pretty badass and change the classes significantly enough to make things pretty darn interesting. (I managed to pick up a soldier rocket launcher called "the black box", it shoots one less missile but you get +15 health back on every hit, including splash damage!!)

Woe be unto the player capping a point solo if a Demoman armed with the Chargin' Targ and the Eyelander happens to be around

I am totally out of date on the crafting system, and what new weapons do...

I might be able to get some game time in tonight.

Check out the TF2 wiki for a complete run down on items / strategies / crafting recipies (that is if the site stays up, I know it was having connection issues early this morning from so many users hammering it at once).

Bottom line though even if you don't have the new toys the game is still a lot of fun, if you see me online join whatever server I'm on! :D

Technically you can in minecraft too ;) just no built in gun yet. Only arrows which you can use a bow with, or an auto launcher box thing.

So many new items and things!...

I think the iTunes 99c pricing for apps has tainted me... I am actually tempted to purchase some of the 99c items in the TF2 store... Mostly because the time it would take me to craft the items by drops is astronomical!.

Just be careful, I think the minimum amount you can put in your Steam wallet is like $5 or something

The set items are deceivingly priced. There will be several cheap items and one rare expensive one.

Haven't made any purchases, need to play some more.

Made two purchases:

1. A key to open a crate... disappointing.. wont do it again. The item was worth less than the key.
2. Picket up the "Back Scratcher" Melee weapon for the Piro... VERY happy.. Oddly enough the strange trade off for healing works very well in my favor most games and it does WAY more damage.

Good info on the drop system.

If you are connected to steam the offline practice mode counts toward game time.

Post by: Lazybones on June 30, 2011, 08:27:23 PM
FYI if you are a lazy casual gamer there is currently a way to get more drops without any work.

1. Start the game, I would suggest switching to windowed mod (less likely to crash if you minimize it)
2. Go to the Offline Game mode, I control points, but I don't think it matters
3. Let it load to the chalkboard / film room.
4. Minimize the game and let it run. (max 11 hrs a week for drops unless you have rollover from the previous week)
5. Check your backpack, if nothing then, join an online game then after a death check your backpack. You should have lots of loot and stuff to craft with.

This currently does not break any Valve rules, it also does not alter your stats for any characters playtime and kills since you don't even go to the character select.

Summer item sale, and special items..

I like this note:
QuoteNote: The Scout is shown equipped with TWO miscellaneous slot items. We realize this is currently IMPOSSIBLE. After firing the artist responsible, we are now working on making that artist's vision a reality.

Whoa! Very handy!!

Also, I got some scout stuff for ya (but I don't remember what lol)

Ooh cool found a similar site that shows me what I have in my backpack! Okay, I have:
-The Winger (http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Winger) (more damage, smaller clip)
-The Atomizer (http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Atomizer) (triple jump at the cost of damage and attack speed)

http://www.tf2items.com/id/mr_analog

Will trade for Chargin' Targ and the Claidheamh M?r :D

But it's good to know that, even now: No one expects a Scout rush :D

Here's the store page:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/440/

Sign up for Steam, download the client and pick up a copy and start fraggin'

Send me a PM with your Steam id and I'll add you to the Righteous Wrath Steam Group

Ask your dad first of course lol

Also, if you are a dad and are concerned about the cartoony blood and gore you can change the settings to that you gib into piles of cakes, presents, tricycles, etc rather than bodyparts

Oh yeah, there's a training mode now (for Soldier only right now I think), pretty handy if you're new to the game.

Which is funny and disturbing when you log into a server that has a mod to change to this mode intentionally.. I was very confused one night.

My Dad suggested it to me. I completed Portal 5 times got stuck in Half Life 2, haven't played it much, and played TF2 for the longest time before I got Halo... And now I'm gonna try it out again tonight and see how much changed... I'll probably be stuck finding out the new features :D

Tonight I'll be sure to be IN the RW channel when I log on :)

Last night was good I got 50 points one round as Engineer, people just wouldn't stop touchin' that durn thing, it was epic.

Also since teleporters get blown up all the time it loaded up my shotgun with like half a dozen crits
Title: Re: TF2 Tonight (Friday, June 24)
Post by: Mr. Analog on July 08, 2011, 09:08:29 AM
Okay okay okay! Last night I crafted the Loch-n-Load to see what it was like, man if you can get good with direct hitting foes with the grenade launcher you are gonna be DEADLY, it packs a wollop and can gib an unbuffed scout, sniper or spy from medium range BUT if the grenades touch anything else they just shatter.

Also, I love the Claidheamh M?r, combined with the Splendid Screen it's pretty deadly, also worth it just to take someone's head off and hear Demoman say "THERE CAN BEEEEEEEEEEE ONLY ONE!"

One item that's actually made me a better player overnight is the Buff Banner, it's an unlock achieved a week ago and holy crap now I understand why falling back to find health is so much better than going kamikaze. For those who don't play Soldier or who haven't read up on the Buff Banner, you have to earn "rage" by doing 600 points of damage to enemy targets, this isn't easy to do if you run into battle with no escape plan (basically you need to get at least 4 kills or so and/or splash damage). Once your rage meter is full though you can whip out the Buff Banner, blow the horn and everyone on your team around you gets mini-crits for TEN SECONDS, so if you need that extra something to make a point cap THIS is the tool for that job. With the Direct Hit you can easily gib a Heavy, or if he's Ubered with a medic, throw back his medic far enough that he loses the link and someone else can splash him (also follow up with another shot to finish the medic.

I was able to do this a few times last night and wow, what a difference in play!

I've also mapped my melee selection button to one of my mouse buttons, I was finding it tough to juggle my items (since primary weapon and secondary are pre-mapped to quickswitch), it makes the game a bit easier (for me anyway).

Anyways, D&D tonight but I'll be playing some TF2 tomorrow, my plans for Saturday went down the tubes so... between some artwork and whatnot I'll likely be online playin' games :)
