http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2011/08/what-battlefield-3-needs-to-steal-from-modern-warfare-3-and-vice-versa.ars
article includes the complete BF3 teaser/trailer and zomg that looks amazing.
Two things holding me back from Battlefield 3:
1. You can't host your own servers (you have to "rent" a server)
2. It's made by EA (aka the great satan)
3. (I lied, there're three things) NOT AVAILABLE ON STEAM (Sorry EA, I'm not fumbling around with discs or trying to find EXE cracks that don't require the frickin' ancient silver platter to play!!)
MW3 looks ok and certainly has a rewarding/fun looking single player mode but I'm willing to bet the multiplayer just won't have the same kind of open feeling as other games, and let's face it, as fun as Modern Warfare series is it's kind of like being on a rail for the most part.

... hence the "needs-to-steal-from-modern-warfare-3" aspect of the article ;)
There are valid points on both sides I think, if they could combine both titles into one great game it would be the best thing to come along in the FPS category in a long time.
MW risks getting too goofy for its own good (sorta like the Bond franchise) IMO
I've heard some good things from my BF player-friends, and they say it was a good game. I do sorta trust Dice with their games after Mirrors Edge, that was a perfectly made game! One of the reasons I am refraining from MW3 is the cheesyness of COD Black Ops. That had a bit too much wrong in it, such as hit boxes. I have seen someone shooting, not even at the guy and he still kills him! That was one of the reasons I started playing Halo (R.I.P. Bungie D:). I am looking at it for the 360, and I would like your guys's opinion; MW3 or BF3. Currently I am leaning towards BF3, and I might try out the Multiplayer Beta, that I'm sure I could find on XBox Live Market...
I'd be more interested in BF3 if EA wasn't the distributor hahaha
"Within 24 hours of going on sale, the game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Call_of_Duty:_Modern_Warfare_3)sold 6.5 million copies in the US and UK alone and grossed $400 million."
(!)
"the most successful entertainment launch of anything, ever (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/121/1212246p1.html)"

After much decision making (and finishing a couple games) I decided to get me some MW3
I can't resist the stupid plot OR the co-op spec op mission mode.
I also bought me some BATMAAAAAAAAAAAAAN so I can boogie around Gotham and beat bad guys with other bad guys
I finished BF3 and now working on MW3. I like the story in both, but I am really happy with the multi-story arcs in MW3. I don't think I will play MP on MW3 anytime soon though, as BF3 is so much better in this area.
I'll probably look at BF later for PC. I think it'd be a lot more fun for Fraga but I have no idea if it will run on my current rig heh
So I made it past the halfway mark through campaign mode last night (!?).
I have to say I wasn't expecting much but as I was playing through the first act I had a smile on my face and by the end of it actually laughed because it was fun.
The game isn't without it's annoyances but it's sort of like a blockbuster movie, full of stupid @% but it's REALLY FUN stupid @%.
At one point I was playing as support fire in a Herc and as I would knock out major obstacles the game would zoom into the ground where I'd continue the fighting on foot, I thought it was reasonably clever because it showed the battlefield from both the tactical and on the ground angle, if there was an APC or a helicopter that I missed it would make things more difficult on the ground.
So yeah, anyway, throw realism out the window, this is just some fun crazy stuff.
Hopefully enough people I know with the XBox version will want to try out the Spec Ops co-op stuff...
I have it on PC.. :(
MW3??
Yes and BF3... both on PC.
Ah, I see. Well BF3 I will certainly get for PC (eventually). MW3 I just wanted to play casually on the XBox :)
surprising to find out this G is a hardcore gamer:

Iced Tea?
cold!
This is probably the most dadaist conversation I've had in a long time...
I find your lack of context disturbing.

I'm surprised at your confusion. I pray you do not surprise me further.
What's confusing about saying that IceTea is "cold"? Tracy Marrow be one chillin' brotha, brotha.
LOL the whole conversation really...
There can be no doubt that Th? Glac? is cool.
^ Sometimes It Is Even (dare I say) Brisk.
Boy you said a LipTon there
US iced tea is very different from Canadian iced tea.
For example: theirs is actual tea, ours is kool aid.
How one aids kool I will never know, do they have kool aides that administer aid to kool? Is that Kool Aid Man's job title? Kool Aide?
Do hardcore gamers drink Kool Aid? Does it taste like victory?
Why would you be surprised that a guy with a whole bunch of money and time made through being famous:
a) spends time attention-whoring on Twitter
b) spends time playing video games
c) combines the two?
Not sure how him tweeting about playing a game makes him a "hardcore gamer", either. But then I've always found the "hardcore gamer" label to be very difficult to apply because everyone has their own ideas about it. For instance, if one plays Facebook games for 8 hours a day, is one more or less hardcore than if one plays Black Ops and MW3 for 2 hours a day?
While we're off the rails for a bit, though, how to remember the difference:

There's Ice Cube and Ice T.
LOL ^
"Hardcore gamers" are identifiable by their level of disdain for other gamers, in layman's terms; a douchebag
But that only works for those that self-identify as "hardcore gamers". How does that work with people who identify others as "hardcore gamers"? Or are you suggesting Darren thinks Ice T is a d-bag?
That's a good question actually, is it just a catch all for "people who play games a lot" or is it more of a "people who play a certain type of game a lot"?
Which is sorta the question you posed earlier.

Do hardcore gamers drink Kool Aid?
I think they do, depending on which biased website they are posting comments onto, and how strongly/vocally/blindly they dislike "the other console/franchise" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drinking_the_Kool-Aid) ;)
BTW, I was saying Ice T is not just a guy who is aware of new games, but that he is eager/excited about the release date of those games, and sad when he can't get it during the midnight first-opportunity crowd, etc. And he's got some kind of gamers league or something that he regularly references via # tags added to his tweets (edit: actually it's more like a "trolling gang (https://www.google.com/search?q=Final+Level+Twitter+Gang)", some say)
I got this impression, tbh, from a "Cracked*" list, something like "7 Celebrity Tweets That Will Surprise You" (I think #1 or #2 was Mike "Peaceful Vegan Philosopher" Tyson).
ahhh, found it:
http://www.cracked.com/article_18854_the-5-most-shocking-celebrity-twitter-feeds_p2.html
Quote
Even if you only go back as far as the beginning of September 2010 on his Twitter feed, you'll find no fewer than 98 mentions of the word "game." Dead Rising gets 13 mentions. Try MW2 (Modern Warfare 2) and you'll see eight mentions. Fallout, as in Fallout: New Vegas gets five. Gears 3 gets three.
Ice-T not only tweets extensively about his gaming passion but also interacts with fans over it. And P.S., reading Ice's feed as a nongamer is straight gibberish.
So... for those thinking this was my usual "why the fudge does Darren think this is remotely on-topic?" hijack... I hope I've explained myself ;) (http://a3.twimg.com/profile_images/1260485334/NYK-Final-Logo-Ident-For-Twitter_normal.jpg)
*I offer an apology / the usual timesink disclaimer/warning ;)
See now that's what I'm talkin' bout.

I have never understood why vehicle entry is permitted in BF once the vehicle is above a walking / running speed or higher than x from the ground.
