Title: Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe
Post by: Mr. Analog on March 13, 2012, 01:06:19 PM
K, first things first, I found this while looking for a better peanut butter cookie recipe, it looked good and I had all the ingredients at the time (last November?) so I tried it and I was genuinely surprised by how awesome it actually was, since then I've used this recipe three times.

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/best-chocolate-chip-cookies/

Ingredients

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons hot water
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped walnuts

Directions

Now, when I do it I use an electric hand mixer before adding the flour, then I switch to a big ol' spoon and raw muscle (hoo-ah). It helps to oil your hands a little bit too when putting the portions on the cookie sheets, that cookie dough be sticky yo...

I've read that if you leave the cookie dough in the fridge over night you get even better results but I've yet to notice a difference.

Anyway, if you get all your shiz together before hand you can do this in an hour (with plenty of cleanup time). The other thing is you could probably make more than 2 dozen if you shaped smaller cookies, I dunno about you guys but I kinda like smaller cookies (mostly because this recipe is rich).

It's pretty easy to do and then you end up with really good cookies for a couple weeks (obviously your mileage may vary there lol). Store in a seal-able container with some wax paper and you're golden.

PROTIP: don't wear a black t-shirt while making this

Those cookies would last until they've almost cooled down enough to touch, at my house :P

Also, you can never have too much vanilla.

Also also, you can roll this out and cut shapes with a cookie cutter or even just a knife (I dare ya to make a Darth Vader or Supes shaped cookie and eat its head).

Haha, I'm sure.

As for shapes I don't know, I had enough trouble making them into spheres lol

Nonsense, PB cookies are made round and with a nice wavy fork imprint on top, or a peanut...

Indeed. I'd gotten quite good at PB cookies for a while. Haven't made any in half a year at least though. I use "natural" chunky peanut butter, dark brown sugar and half cake flour with extra (melted) butter. Makes for some super chewy and delicious PB cookies.

Yeah don't use smooth PB it's too greasy. I tried once, they came out okay but were pretty greasy...

To contradict my own standards, apparently they originally where rolled thin and cut into shapes... however the criss cross pattern has had a very long history.

It's the only way I do 'em. I know that's how mom always made 'em plus that's how it's described in my copy of The Joy of Cooking

Geez, no commentary on the "witchcraft" I linked to?

Peanut Butter cookies ... WITH A THICK LAYER OF PEANUT BUTTER FILLING!

Oh yeah, I figured out how to get perfect sized cookies; use an ice cream scoop.

I sprayed some PAM on it and it did the trick, no fuss, no muss.

Also making cookies is RIDICULOUSLY easy.
