Thank you Darren for that post where you talk about Lincoln getting shot. That link http://dlewis.net/nik-archives/abraham-lincoln-created-the-secret-service-the-day-he-was-shot/ then has a link http://dlewis.net/nik-archives/the-one-hundred-trillion-dollar-bill/ which then has a link http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7995882.stm which then has a link to http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-17456505 which @% KAREN GILLAN IS LEAVING DOCTOR WHO?!?!?!?!?
Even worse, that made me read more stuff, and the more stuff says there's going to be 14 episodes (yay! 2 more than usual!) spread over two years WTF

Funny I saw the news of the new companion in a much less round about way in my normal news feeds.
It is that cycle, they have built up the character to the point they need a new shy sidekick.
It's sort of a long standing tradition in Who to mix and match submissive personality types with the Doctor and have them evolve out of it (as always, there are contradictions to this rule: Leela).
Of course I have to brace myself for all the new (and horrible) fangirl shipping that will flood my various nerd feeds.
:sigh: oh well we'll still have her awesome interviews on British "Chat Shows"...

Dammit, how long are they gonna take to get the new series out? I needs my Doctor Who fix!
And I wouldn't say Rose was ever a submissive personality... Nor Martha Jones or Donna Noble. All three of those were very strong personalities, I'd say.

Not exactly butting heads with the Doctor at first though either... (well, maybe Martha lol)
Donna Noble wasn't butting heads with the Doctor? I'd say she came in screeching at him the very first time we saw her.
Rose and Martha Jones were both somewhat smitten with the thought of travelling through time and space, I'll give you that.
Xactly
