So I noticed that Netflix has Captain America, Thor and Iron Man 2.
On the weekend I finally watched Captain America, I really enjoyed it, now I am curious about Thor and te Avengers movie...
Avengers = bar-none the best Marvel movie
But you need to see at least Thor to get a bit of the back story, and Captain America for a bit more.
I kinda hope not, I missed Thor and Captain America, I'm not sure why I felt I couldn't trust those movies. I guess I've been burned on so many Silver Age comic characters getting a crap treatment (Green Lantern dammit) and these are two of my very favourite...
I'm also hesitant to go to the theatre because of the poor experience. The last film I saw was great but it was a more adult drama so everyone was well behaved.
As discussed at D&D I don't have very high hopes for Batmaaaaaan either...
It looks weak
I don't read a lot of comics, never did as I never had the cash to buy them. But even then, I know that the movies will probably be crap-tastic versions with more focus on explosions and love stories and less focus on the harsh gritty alternate realities of said comics.
It's hard to make movies based on any kind of written material, even more so if the written material includes pictures. For example, I thought Rogue in X-Men 1/2/3 was completely wrong. Young girl? She's an mature woman from the south!
Oh man, I hear ya, when I see they're making a new superhero movie I know I'm gonna get something divergent from the comics, but the degree of divergence OR how well it stands out on its own is the key factor.
I highly recommend Thor before Avengers... so much in that one movie ties into the Avengers story line.
IMO Thor, Iron Man and Captain America are all great movies. The latest Hulk with Norton was alright, and only the end of that one would give you any insight into the new Avengers version of the Hulk - so not much miss there. Captain America, well there is some small references to that movie in the Avengers beginning which would make the story arc make more sense if you'd seen Captain America. Iron Man, well other than getting the character style of Robert as Iron, there probably isn't much there except to explain Penny's character relationship that shows in Avengers.
Of course if you are a fan of the comics you probably have enough to jump into Avengers.
Thor, Iron Man 1 & 2 and Captain America are all on video now, so if you want to see them ahead of Avengers, I have them all.
Captain America is at lest as good as Iron Man, maybe better... As some other reviewers point out the story is a bit rushed, and mostly serves at an Origin story for Captain America to link to the Avengers movie.
I have casual knowledge of the comic origin of Captain America as well I have watch some of Marvels on cartoons for the Avengers... Seems fairly true to the character..
In fact I think I found the FX / action in Captain America FAR more believable than several NON super hero movies lately.
I have seen not-nearly-enough of the "prequels", but I was VERY pleasantly surprised with how good/deep/rich the THOR film was. And I saw bits and pieces of Captain USA!USA! the other night as my son was watching it on NetFlicks, seemed a lot better than the trailer made it look like it would be.
Hard to watch The Avengers without grinning now though, since I accidentally saw something from the "Spill.com" guys called "What exactly does Nick Fury do, anyway!?" ;D

Gonna throw out a possibility: HORRIBLE trailers. That give you an impression it's gonna be a certain kind of typical-genre movie, but the story and the acting go well beyond what was the "minimum". Especially for the Captain (When I saw the trailer I was like "Tommy Lee Jones, come on, do you really need a Phone It In For A Paycheck scenery-chewing role this late in your career?". As I said above, neither is as bad a movie as they "shoulda been", and it appears that neither is a bad movie period. Based on the scenes I saw the other night, I actually want to watch CA all the way through now (even though I know how it ends :o )
I guess also I'm sick of things I liked as a kid being destroyed by film makers hahah ...oy
Avengers was great (3D adds nothing to this movie), and Captain America was good too. Thor wasn't as good in my opinion, but it does add a lot of back story to the Avengers, so its a must see. And to true Marvel movie from wait till after all the cedits, there are 2 sneak peaks, one is epic, the other is just funny

Captain USA!USA!
Ha ha we were discussing this today at coffee... Captain America movie is a bit of "USA! USA!", but then again... Captain America was made in USA! USA! propaganda style, so I guess you have to put up with that in the movie, as (according to the special features) they were really trying to capture that first release of the comics.

Interesting note, the second "after all credits" was filmed post European Release and pre-North American release specifically for the NA release. European releases now include this scene, but wasn't there before Friday May 4th, 2012.

That makes me kind of curious because I have a collection of Captain America's first few stories (including origin).
1. Hey Steve, let me stick you with this syringe
2. ???
3. Punch NAZIs
Great books for kids at home wondering if their older brother was going to be all right or for GIs fantasizing about what they'd do if they had super powers...

Sounds like they basically nailed it then ;)
FYI the Go Go America propaganda is a plot point of the movie.

How could it have been about anything other than that?
For those who follow the comics - no it could not be anything other...
But for those whom know little about Captain America........
Hah!?

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier", epic trailer released today:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLWsK1ZFunA
Dammit, imo this trailer makes it looks
more exhilaratingly blockbuster-y than The Avengers! And I don't even
care about the Captain America character/story...
(Wikipedia for this film already does a half-spoiler-y job of summarizing the story; the complete cast is listed but looks like no Clark Gregg, weird)
It looks DAMN good...
Avengers was so good, this also looks good.
The Helicarrier still can't catch a break tho

Well,
if you keep defying the laws of physics, eventually nature is gonna fight back and @% you up*.
(I've had that lesson hammered into my brain via numerous episodes of Fringe ;) )
*and you're gonna have a bad time (http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/super-cool-ski-instructor).
