It's interactive, so you should play with it a bit :)

When you get to the transporter room, pay attention to which direction the sliders go.  They go in the wrong direction.

I CANNOT UNSEE THIS!!!

Google Doodle for the 107th anniversary of Winsor McCay's Little Nemo in Slumberland
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwQtJq_yzZQ

...imo this forum really should have a single "interactive Google Doodles" catch-all thread ;)
at least they are collected in one place @ http://www.google.com/doodles

There are so many doodles lately, some really bog down the ol' home page a bit too :-/

Was there one yesterday to commemorate the sound barrier being officially broken 65 years ago?

Mr. Analog, I think the sound barrier thing might've been about that guy who jumped out of a capsule at 24 miles up in the air and broke the sound barrier on the way down?  http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/story/2012/10/14/skydive-new-mexico-baumgartner.html

Darren, if you want a single Doodles thread, make one.  The power is within you! :)

I just search the forum for "Google Doodle" and add to the most recent thread. 'tis my way, bro, 'tis my way.

No, I was asking because yesterday, October 14th, was the 65th anniversary of Chuck Yeager officially breaking the sound barrier in the Bell X-1 rocket plane.

The amazing space jump attempt was very nearly on the anniversary too (which would have been amazing).

I don't think I even hit the google home page yesterday (was just querying the Tekkit wiki all day haha)

Which I find incredibly annoying. Just sayin.

Our threads go awry all the time, but as long as a posting's understandable I don't care if it goes in the wrong (but still somewhat related) thread.  I mean, we could moderate and move these new points of interest to their own threads, but that requires work, and, well, the lazy.

Funny thing is, it's probably less work to just make a new thread than to search for existing ones with similar keywords.

I know how that goes, you feel like a more general thread exists for a topic but it doesn't and you spend an hour to post a 5 minute link...

I really don't mind a thread going OT what so ever. Generally that means the original topic is done anyhow. What irks me is bringing ancient threads up from the dead over and over.

Kinda one reason I like the allegro.cc forums. Threads auto lock after a week of inactivity. People can't make replies one after the other (ie: it won't let you post if you're the last commenter, you can however edit your post, and potentially bump the thread after some time. editing a post doesn't bump the thread to the top of the most recent list, but it does highlight it. if you want to bump it, there's a button for that that you can use after about an hour). Oh and the "recent threads" page doesn't do any kind of per session state shenanigans making sure multiple clients show different sets of recent threads....)

See on the flipside I dislike chan-style thread locking based on thread age, because you just know there will be 25 threads about the same thing making searching for something specific a challenge.

Maybe. But a decent search function fixes that. I really don't want to have to spend an hour searching through a six year old thread for some specific detail, when it's more likely to be in a newer thread because its a  newer issue.

But it's not based on thread age per-se. Its how long the thread has been idle. Threads on a.cc have gone on for months, and months (european foot-ball anyone?). Its only once it's truly died, and nothing can or has added anything of value to it for over a week that a thread is locked.

On the advanced search you can sort by most recent posts so I don't really see the point to locking old threads.

Why have 5 threads about ducks when only one is needed, particularly if new information comes to light that pertains to the old conversation.

Again, on sites (like chan-boards) that have high traffic it makes sense for the admins to lock them and remove them from active indexing (both on the DB and the site), hell really high traffic forums have offsite backup archives you can peruse at your leisure.

But for here? Where we average less than 20 posts a day? Not worth getting excited about I say.

I just find it annoying. Completely ancient threads with new content that is only tangentially related? eh. I could do without.

The main thing I like about consolidating conversations is that I don't have to go hunting around to pick up pieces of the whole story, I kinda like that there is a thread in most conversations, one that can be picked up any time.

But whatever, you like cats, I like dogs :)

I like cats and dogs. I also like Kats and Dog (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094491/).

I should say, I don't mind a thread made with the intention to be a wiki of sorts. But just posting random only tangentially related bits onto ancient threads that haven't seen the light of day in a couple years? :P If it isn't directly related, give it a new thread imo.

ARGH! In blatant irony to my efforts to create a "containment" thread for all things Googledoodle, THIS old thread has gotten a new life! And it's not even ABOUT Google/Doodles!

I REGRET EVERYTHING!

And I find this tangent discussion you are currently participating in (unreleated to [G|D]oodle[s]? ) ironic ;)

"Containment" thread ftw --> http://forums.righteouswrath.com/index.php/topic,9159.0.html

As I've said in the past, if a thread has stalled, and it goes OT, don't mind one bit. Its not the same issue imo.

Agreed.

However the thread in this case ain't "stalled", since I brought it back to life (in error, hindsight tells me) and discussion of Google Doodles was re-initiated (then hijacked) (not that I don't know what it's like to be the hijacker).

Anyway, some mod might split, if nobody does then I'll just update the Containment thread with links to the others. "problem" solved.
