Title: Google Doodle toil and Canoodle
Post by: Darren Dirt on October 15, 2012, 03:20:42 PM
collected thread, containment thread, w/e you wanna call it.

Here we can/should link to previous "one Doodle" wasteful threads, or just paste in the post contents from there, w/e, your choice bros and broettes.

I'll start with today's:

[dang it, I can't "split" a thread, someone else has to -- starting with the post @ http://forums.righteouswrath.com/index.php/topic,9080.msg65732.html#msg65732 , please and thank you]

Google Doodle for the 107th anniversary of Winsor McCay's Little Nemo in Slumberland

...imo this forum really should have a single "interactive Google Doodles" catch-all thread ;)
at least they are collected in one place @ http://www.google.com/doodles

lol, I was half-expecting you to dig in your heels and not do this :)

Hmm, I hadn't even heard of Little Nemo in Slumberland until you pointed out the doodle about it.

My first exposure was a NES game when I was a kid, it was somewhat surreal from what I remember. It was only later I found out about the newspaper comic and all that jazz.

And I'm willing to go to all those other threads and move the contents to here and add a link to it, but if someone with MOD access to the General/Lobby was able to some kinda mega-merge that would be better imo.

pretty sure this is the first time I've seen an article in the first page of results from Google that complains/criticizes the Doodle!

I've seen a few now, the problem is that either the doodles are getting too large / long loading (like this morning's was for me) or a criticism of the actual thing being celebrated (which seems to be the latter).

imo it's sorta but not quite #2, it's more like "if you're gonna pay tribute to Sendak, don't make it a dilution/wateringdown of the mischievous spirit of his body of work"

i.e. in this case not dark enough I guess? After all, to quote a Sendak interview (http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2011/oct/02/maurice-sendak-interview): "I refuse to cater to the bull@%&# of innocence."

Yes, I meant the "how" of the celebration not the why.

An interesting fellow, I guess one of the major sticking points is his publisher wanted to change the word "hot" (in relation to dinner) to "warm" and he fought this tooth and nail (and eventually won).

SCREW YOU, GOOGLE!

Sincerely, every one of us not currently in a long-term romantic relationship.

Hmmm... I guess you similarly deserve the hatin' only if you rub it in the noses of those of us less fortunate!

I guess you're like "The 1%" in that way.

Gotta wonder exactly how Google matched up the webpages' contents with that search text...

I broke Google!

The Valentine's Day card industry is also broken! There should be less safe and mushy and cheesy cliches, and more of this type of brilliance!

WOW, today is a goo-doodle that I actually LIKE! And it's been quite a while, maybe not since the Doctor Who video game one...
