Title: Let's Nuke the Nether
Post by: Mr. Analog on January 22, 2013, 09:51:28 AM
Forget moving to the Nether, let's regenerate it before the next release of Minecraft so we can get all those cool new ores.

I know people have built extensive travel systems in that dimension but with teleport blocks I think we have a better fast-travel option available.

Nether Quartz!!

Vanilla, there are some cool new items coming for the Nether with the Redstone Update.

On vanill-ish (since we have teleport commands as part of Essentials as part of Bukkit).

Tom, is there a way that we could figure out where all the portals are?  Then if we nuked the Nether I would volunteer to rebuild the portals at perfect-matched locations, at the very least.

Lenny and Pants might not like that their long nether railroads are gone, and Kdevil had a connection between his pyramid and his hexabot cockroach, I think.

Also, if we're moving to using command blocks to teleport everywhere then we'll probably run out of space at Grand Central Terminal...  Although that'll be a little while yet.  And I might be able to come up with a more compact Tele-Portal design.

I'm sure more terminal buildings could be made, but yeah compacting the design would be cool too.

If RedPower was installed you could cut blocks into covers and make phone booth looking things :D

I think I can get overviewer to mark portals. I think.

Just a note, if the portals are left in the overworld, the moment you travel to the nether they will be re-created (though you may have to build/dig up to get them into a safe are)

Yeah, they won't be perfect-matched either, so you might step in one, get one created, step back through it, and come out another.  This could be a pain where portals are pretty close together.  And we'd still have to find all of them in the nether to step through them.

Close together portals are a whole other problem. heh!

I don't really use i anymore since I built my own teleport network.
