Well this is a first for me... never seen Chrome do this before, especially on a large commercial site like IGN. I didn't even know Chrome had a check like that in place.
Yep, I think there are two ways of reporting a site, either people directly contacting Google or through reported faults from Google search, each site has a hazard rating and when it hits critical mass they send you to an error page.
Sometimes pages get incorrectly tagged too.
Firefox does the same thing.
Most often it is from the sites ad network getting infected and then tripping automated detection when the site is scanned.
I'm surprised you didn't know about Chrome's malware warnings. Most likely, the malware is being served through an advertisement on the IGN website. Google will have provided technical details for IGN to fix the problem.

I see Lazy already answered this. I have to remember to hit Post sooner :)
Seriously that is the first time I've seen that before with Chrome, and I surf all my interwebs with it.
I'm surprised too, sometimes sites get tagged erroneously, I get hit by this sometimes on code wikis and whatnot due to abuse.
Oddly enough the weird kinky sites? Surprisingly malware free.

Hah! That's hilarious!
I don't think I've ever seen an erroneous malware report from chrome, its usually due to infected ad-networks. Seems to happen regularly.
