Title: Don't Starve
Post by: Tom on May 27, 2013, 10:28:23 PM
I am going to try and put some time aside for mc AND some don't starve soon. I really think don't starve will be fun.

"don't starve"?  Is that a real-world game?

Heh, yes, and no.

http://www.dontstarvegame.com/

I've been watching some lets plays. And it looks really neat, AND they update this game every month, and will for the next 6+ months or something I heard. So there's always going to be something new.

One issue though, is if you die, your session is over. It a bit like hardcore mode in MC, though you do keep stuff outside of the immediate session. It's basically a "see how many days you can stay alive" type thing.

Don't Starve is @%&#ing amazing

I've been watching ol' Sipsy's run, he made it past 100 days so far, which having watched the game is not easy.

I don't have it myself, I'm not sure if I should either it looks like a game I could really sink time into!

EDIT:

YES it is hardcore mode HOWEVER you can craft items that will give you more than one life, they're just hard to build or risky to acquire (or both).

Some maps will include a touchstone, which gives you a free life if you examine it.

Don't forget to pick flowers.

to be honest, I've been wondering for a while if you wanted the game, but I didn't know how to go about asking without spoiling any kind of surprise ;D I figured you might, but just giving a game you'll never play is kinda, well, a waste really. So yeah :D

It can be tricky but I think you did it the right way around

Now, how to build Shadow Manipulator... lol

Yeah, I died twice last night. Touchstone saved me once. Lasted 90 minutes, and unlocked willow. part way to the next unlock too.

In game it will tell you what day you are on.  I guess it can be important because some events are timed or rely on the moon

It doesn't help if you die. It seems the games are completely wiped. I can't see anywhere to see stats on previous sessions.

I /think/ I stayed alive for over 10 days, if not 14+.

I'll give it a shot myself tonight

Man, for just $15 you, too, could own Don't Starve, the hardcore science-y magic-y game of survival.

Hey, is it gory or scary (scarier than spiders and creepers at night in Minecraft)?

Not scary I think, the art style is very nice I think, just stressful when things go bad they go REAL bad (again, watching Sips tangle with TWO Keepers of the Forest was pretty tense)

The game's goal is surviving for the longest time, while avoiding starvation, insanity, and hostile enemies.

Sounds like a summary of much of my mid-20s after 10pm on most ETS bus routes...
