The Oculus Rift is an upcoming virtual reality head-mounted display. It is being developed by Oculus VR, who have raised $16 million, of which $2.4 million was raised with crowdfunding via Kickstarter. The company was founded by Palmer Luckey and the co-founders of Scaleform, and id Software cofounder John Carmack was later hired as its Chief Technology Officer.

I've heard so much about it, I really want to see what it's like though.
So Facebook buys Oculus Rift.
How does Google respond?

Kinda cool idea actually.
A TON of companies are providing various styles and fashions, most are under $20. https://www.google.com/get/cardboard/get-cardboard/
And want to create RL footage in VR form on the cheap? Google can help with that too! https://www.google.com/get/cardboard/jump/

IMO the real game changer could be Valve, they've been putting all their time and resources into their VR project (as well as other hardware, like the Steam Machines and the Steam Link --- which are questionable successes at best)
Generally speaking they don't release poor quality
But then again they haven't been releasing much of anything for quite some time (Dota 2 in 2013?)
So it's coming out to the consumer market next month apparently!
But it's kinda pricey imo...

The potential ? for everything from gaming to psychotherapy to virtual training ? is huge. Even some major news organizations are starting to create content so that viewers can ?experience? other locations and stories without leaving their armchair.
But that full-blown Oculus experience comes at a price. You can pre-order the headset now for $599 (U.S.) with shipping at the end of March. To experience it at its best, you?ll require either a high-end PC or an ?Oculus Ready? computer. That will set you back about $900 (U.S.), or roughly $6 million (Cdn.). The headset will come bundled with an Xbox One controller ? and many software developers have Oculus-ready games well down the pipeline.
Six Million Dollars, Man! LOL
I hope Valve gets royally burnt by this technolocal abortion. Give us @% we want like Half-life 3
