Title: New Trek Series in Production?
Post by: Mr. Analog on August 23, 2013, 01:54:04 PM
http://entertainment.slashdot.org/story/13/08/23/1920216/new-canon-faithful-star-trek-series-is-in-pre-production

Quote"Star Trek veterans such as Walter Koenig (Pavel Chekov), Tim Russ (Tuvok), Robert Picardo (the Doctor) and others are busy in pre-production of a professionally produced pilot episode for a suggested new online Star Trek series named Star Trek: Renegades, which will be faithful to the original Star Trek canon. The events of the series are placed a decade after Voyager's return from Delta Quadrant. When the pilot is complete, they'll present it to CBS in the hopes that it'll be picked up. They have also opened an Indiegogo campaign, seeking more funds from Star Trek fans to help make the production even more professional. They've already reached their primary funding goal."

So, lately I've been watching a lot of Star Trek (both TOS and TNG) thanks to Netflix and I've realized that I REALLY MISS Star Trek

Just to put things in perspective, my back has been pretty sore so when I go to rest I bring my padd (err, tablet) and watch an episode or two of TNG. I started sometime last week after I powered through Breaking Bad and I'm currently midway through Season 4. What a great show, even the crap episodes...

I still go back regularly to watch TOS remastered on the big screen and TAS on the little screen.

I also bought the remastered collection of films and have watched them all over again, heck even Star Trek V was fun!

So yeah, I hope this comes to fruition online, or better yet a new TV series.

You're kinda like me with "24" right now (although your viewing pace is way higher than mine).

If the media-influence claimants (esp. those anti-videogame headline-grabbers) are correct, then I wonder if a month from now you will be a tea-drinking monolog-spouting utopian socialist, and I will be a gun-toting torture monger who yells DAMMIT a lot?

Well, I AM in my pyjamas and drinking Earl Grey (hot of course) already...

And to fix this software bug I re-routed the laptop's power supply through the main deflector dish to emit a phased tachyon pulse that should polarize the non-functioning code

I estimated it would take about 8 hours but my team lead told me to finish it in 20 minutes (to be honest it only takes 15 minutes anyway but you have to keep up appearances)

But yeah, funny story, I haven't watched TNG all the way through in order since the original run, sure I'd watch re-runs but usually just random episodes, this is an enlightening experience. Things I thought were terrible actually aren't that bad, and there are a lot of things I totally missed as a young adult, even some social subjects which are still relevant today are touched on.

It's amazing.

I recall hearing about this project months and months ago. I think they've already had one crowd funding campaign. I am quite tempted to help fund this one though.

They've cleared their target, things are looking good!

IMDB entry already (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2621446/) -- apparently Tuvok is directing it, and plenty of comments/theads already there (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2621446/board/)

yeah, let's just say that some folks are less than optimistic (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2621446/board/nest/214002236?d=218039739#218039739) *

*I guess a fair comment, based on the "look" of much of the female cast: (but there's also T2's John Connor, and Grant from Mythbusters, so... legit?)

I have watched all of TNG in order in the last year or so almost more than one, I am currently working my way through DS9 in order since I know I have not seen them all.

I have also watched all of Enterprise in order..

Never did like Voyager...

QuoteI hate to say this because these fans obviously put in a lot of work, but visually, it looks EXACTLY like a porn parody

Whoa, whoa, whoa whoa WHOAH

Star Trek porn is surprisingly well produced -> http://www.agonybooth.com/video786_Star_Trek_The_Next_Generation_A_XXX_Parody.aspx

(apologies for linking to angonybooth.com, it's an extremely addictive site)

Also these are all headshots, which always look kind of... that way

Never did like Voyager...

Voyager was one of those shows that had a ton of potential that they just blew out the airlock by the second episode, that said I think it did get better after they got rid of Kes. The best comment I've read about it was they COULD have made it about bringing Starfleet values to the wild west, but in the end it turned into the standard journey home story where most weeks they would find some "get home kwik" MacGuffin only to reset to the status quo by the end of each episode (once again The City of Voyagerville is saved by the Starfleet Crew). Heck they could have looked at what Farscape was doing, it was pretty much the same basic idea but taken in a really cool direction where things were fast and dangerous and you never knew what would happen next.

ENT was kind of the same way for me, the final season finally started to make it interesting... and then it was over.

I really should hit up DS9 once I'm done with TNG. I recall watching it through to completion once before but wasn't exactly enamoured with it (I did the same thing with ENT and was actually surprised how much I liked it in retrospect). I have a friend that is a DS9 junkie, she'd probably smack me with a Bat'leth if I said that I thought it was only "meh" though hahaha

DS9 has a much slower pace but I do enjoy the character building and most of the stories.

Why are you being so insulting to "blown out of the airlock"? (heck, I just watched Event Horizon, and although a terribly uneven film overall, there was definitely some creative story elements that had to do with exactly that -- people blown out of the airlock; in fact THREE DIFFERENT PEOPLE, none of which were instantly dead. Creative.)

That's basically what brought me right back into Voyager, Robert Picardo basically made that show come together. Also when Jeri Ryan came on board I kind of thought she was just gonna be "Borg Bunny" but Seven became a very strong character on the show almost right away (not quite as good as Data or Spock but still). The two of them together worked so well, it was quite interesting to watch them change (in contrast to most of the other characters that sort of didn't).

Ironic that the two synthetic characters would end up being the most dynamic and human by the end.

I know right? I got linked there a few days back and have been cherry picking articles of interest.

So far the only show I don't like is the cartoon guy, he's off his nut (i.e. he's a "90s kid")

Spoiler

I did a lot of improv in Toronto before Degrassi. I had studied at Second City and worked with most of the guys who went on to form Kids in the Hall. Even Mike Meyers was in one of my classes.
SRSLY?

Yeah I think I'm adding AgonyBooth to the same personal blacklist as 'Tropes.

I know how you feel

I also lament the fact that we could have started a site like this years ago and had shows and stuff
