Caught this on Game Grumps (Steam Train) at lunch today and was... surprised
http://youtu.be/EOnxXJyOJ0s
"STOP EATING VOMIT BRO" wtf lol nice!
edit: I would certainly click YES. Cuz it seems to be an accurate demo, considering this:
"there are no combat or other action-based sequences. Instead, the player controls the protagonist, Stanley, through a surreal environment, with each step of the process narrated. The player has the opportunity to make numerous decisions on which paths to take, including going against what the narration is telling them to do, with each choice leading to different narrations and endings" (wiki) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Stanley_Parable)
According to Wreden, his design document for the game was "Mess with the player's head in every way possible, throwing them off-guard, or pretending there's an answer and then kinda whisking it away from in front of them."
Bastard. Genius bastard.
PS: early "work in progress" short video/intro:

I *LOVE* this game
I haven't laughed this hard at anything for a VERY long time
Took some screens from the game, it's very unique...

But the thing I like most is the non-linear gameplay

um, those first two don't seem like they are the right ones...
THEY ACTUALLY ARE
and it's part of the narrative
I wish more of you would check out this game, price of admission is about the same as a film but it's about a billion times more fun to have your mind screwed with
Even when you find a part of the game that seems actually broken (like clipping through a wall?) THERE'S STILL NARRATIVE
I've been very tempted to play it. I watched totalbiscuit's review (i think it was his anyhow) and it seems hilarious and yet, not a game.
They key there is exactly that, it's not a game, more like interactive fiction
However it does rely on your knowledge of video game tropes and plays off them, it's very clever
Made me laugh out loud several times, and made me stop to think as well
There's a surprising amount of stuff hidden in there as well.

Does PotN or TSN mean "what you see/experience is actually intentional by the game designer"?
Yes
it's like a giant choose your own adventure, except sometimes you end up on page 7 more than once... and then page 7 isn't quite how you remember it
One of the ways to complete the game is to close your office door and not play the game at all
Like I say, it was worth the 12 bux admission to have fun for a whole afternoon in a finely crafted thing like this
Two "Did Ya Know?" facts...
1. the DEMO was highly praised above almost all other video game demos (of 2013, or perhaps of all time?)
2. HD remake baby!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Stanley_Parable#High-definition_remake
... rediscovered this gem when I was reading about the uncredited "Narrator" voice in the Time Heist ep of NuWho.
very meta way of responding to the [accidental?] snub:

The HD Remake is the one I was referring to in earlier posts (and screenshots)
This game is an absolute classic

At lunch just now watching this particular ep of House of Cards. I was like "hey, that voiceover, that kind of game... wait, is it..." lol
