Title: Let's Kill the Ender Dragon
Post by: Mr. Analog on January 02, 2014, 09:29:14 AM
We've talked about doing this before (last year?) but who's in for some dragon killin'?

I'm sure we can all get tooled up with fancy gear. I can go into potion brewing overdrive for buffs, really at this point we just need ender pearls to fill the frame

Any brave souls out there wanna try this on the weekend?

I might be up for that.

Friday night is the Oilers game from 8pm to 11pm.  I'd have no problem skipping it to kill the Ender Dragon.

Saturday is ringette, I wouldn't be available until 10:30pm.  That's a really late start, though.

Sunday's got some ringette, but I could join in after 4pm or so.

Potions would be awesome.  I can probably provide some Power III or higher bows plus an incredible amount of arrows.  Also, magic diamond armour and such :)  We should all put as much extra stuff in an ender chest as possible, and then build an ender chest in the End when we first get there.  Also also, I could try and get a helper or two to join in...

Sounds good, if I can find some time tonight I'll start a-brewing splash healing potions

We need to pool Ender Pearls so i can craft Ender Eyes. If you have some leave them in the first floor chest in the small house near Spawn

How many Ender Pearls do you need?  I have a dozen or so...

12 or less, I think a few slots have been filled already but I'm not sure.

If you're on the server you can find the portal under the hut here:

We have 6 potions of regeneration and ... just over a chest of splash Heal II (I think there's something like 36?)

Next up is armor and there are TONS of enchanting books and I'm sure everyone has diamonds

Also got the End Portal Frame working... I also accidentally FELL INTO IT... le sigh

We'll want a couple of enderchests. one just outside the portal, and one near spawn in the end. just in case.

Bows with infinity would be very helpful, and of course decent armour.

Invis potions can be helpful if you want to snipe at the dragon.

Oh, and if you want to hide, grab a jackolantern and wear it as a helmet.

We need power III bows and armour protection III at least.

The strat should be two parts, one group of archers taking out healing crystals and a group of people keeping up the healing potions / watching the archers backs

Then when we get rid of enough healing crystals hammer on the dragon with bows, if it swoops in scatter while keeping up the shots

In the second half don't clump up

I think it takes 10 headshots from a power III bow to kill it, it doesn't sound hard if there aren't any heals around, but still the thing is relentless

We should also get swords with fire aspect, if you hit en enderman with it it will de-aggro and teleport away

I could set up my beacon and put on some regen magic :o have to do it far underground though, and noone ever ever go near that level so the dragon doesn't destroy it :-x

Though I don't think that's necessary. The dragon is fairly easy to beat with enough people, or with the right strategy.

I guess it depends on how many people join the fight

I've seen one or two people "solo" the dragon. Just gotta keep moving and be a really good bow shot. One guy I think was able to snipe most of the crystals from the ground.

Yeah you don't want to climb those towers, the explosions will knock you off every time

The only way to do it is snipe from the ground.

Occasionally they are too high off the ground to reliably snipe. It helps if you have other people to lure the dragon while another goes for a crystal. Or you wait till its across the map, and pillar up. or enderpearls.

The danger isn't the dragon when using the nerd pole strat, it's the explosive force of the crystal + fall damage

One way that was recommended was to use TNT that would give you a little time to get out of the way at least

Ah, I suppose that would do it, though you can nerd pole partially up from a slight distance then shoot it out. Or enderpearl up, and back down.

So it sounds like we need to create some more things.  I've got Power III bows but they're not Infinitied yet.  And surprisingly I don't have any magic diamond swords yet!  Also armour, but like you said, there's 140+ enchanted books at the Super XP Farm, so I'm sure we'll be able to enchant that up right quick.

I wonder how many levels we'll end up getting from this dang dragon...

The important thing for swords is fire aspect, don't worry about damage. Fire aspect will make it easier to deal with Endermen if they get aggroed

Post by: Tom on January 03, 2014, 10:51:56 AM
Yeah, its not like there will be much damage done by swords.

I fell asleep sometime after 2pm..

I didn't fall asleep and enchanted four swords (two have fire aspect) and made two bows with Power IV and Punch I, and made a bow with Infinity, Flaming, Punch I, Power V, for myself.  Also, I had to get rid of 450+ zombies and skellies and ran out of things to enchant or repair, so I just killed them and let the levels rise, and I'm level 54 now.

Anyway, Sunday afternoon?

Sounds like a plan

I made some more potions, I guess I should get some levels to build better armor

:)

I broke your anvil, I built a new replacement :)

Also that is a load bearing sign!

I also added a dropbox near your hotel teleportal if I find any more gunpowder.

Wait, where's the load bearing sign?

I'm off to ringette practice, I should be online a little after 4pm MST.  Hopefully you're willing to wait with the End Run until then.

I built a Tele-Portal to the End Portal Hut, so you can get there from Grand Central.

YellowBear_ and LuckyCh4rms are ready to join us, but no Tom or Mr_Analog :(

I ended up staying up for 24 hours on saturday, which sucked, and then over slept :(

Sorry guys :(

Pretty much the only thing I did this weekend was play MC and sleep

Like, look at this mine, this is all Saturday:
http://mc.tomasu.org/#/324/64/9/max/0/2

Also I got addicted to the mob grinders for a while, which is how I broke Thorin's anvil I think, the sad thing is I didn't even get any good enchantments

But I have enough diamonds to make all new diamond gear, I just need the enchants to put on them.

I did a little work, and some stuff for me, and went to visit the cat I'm adopting, but doing all of that meant staying up 24 hours+.... ah well.

Note to anyone and everyone, the Petcettera in Millwoods town center is HORRIBLE. DO NOT GO THERE. It should probably be shut down. Check out the reviews for it on google. Wow. The cat I'm adopting was over fed, its a darn good thing that's the only thing that's wrong.

Be warned. I will have pictures of cats soon.

That's a fair bit of digging you did there :)  Don't worry about the anvil, they're made to be used.  Which mob grinder were you at?  And what enchantments did you end up getting that weren't good?

Your skeleton farm, it's the only one I know where it is, I'm sure there are posts with the other ones but I didn't want to tab out

Crappy enchants like Power II, Aqua Affinity, Thorns, etc

I managed to gear up my diamond sword and pick though, I like that you can pile on enchants or upgrade existing ones.

Oh, were you doing the books?

Next time we're both on, I'll show you where the Super XP Farm is, it goes at more than double the speed (you'll be more than doubly-addicted :) ).  Although the drop trap makes it so that the skeletons have one hit point (die in one hit) and the zombies have two hit points (die in two hits), so it's kinda annoying in that a single whack doesn't always get you xp.  But hey, just click lots - mice are replaceable.

There are a lot of books with lower-level enchantments in them at the Super XP Farm.  I know that you can combine two enchanted items with the same enchantment at the same level and it'll bump it up a level, I wonder if that's possible with books.

Ooh, cool yeah that sounds fun!

I was combining low level enchants on my crappy gear, just to see what it would do.

One thing which is a bit of a swizz is you have to spent XP to enchant the book AND THEN you have to spend XP to put it on the item... kind of double dipping XP makes no sense to me.

Yes, but adding the enchantment from a book is pretty cheap plus you get to pick the enchantments.

Next weekend Friday, Saturday, Sunday evenings I'm open, though.  Jan 31 to Feb 2.
