Stephen Colbert speaks about Kevin Vickers

This bit from Stephen Colbert about the shooting on Parliament Hill really struck a chord with me.

We get to see exactly what it was that Kevin Vickers actually did, described in full detail.  We also get typical Colbert humour, mixed with some actual, genuine admiration for Canadia.  Yes, that's what he called it.

I got a little bit misty watching that. Especially when Mr. Vickers was given the standing ovation.

Watching the full CBC segment they edited that from is probably better but it is nice to see the attention.

The details are epic but it has been nice to see the coverage spread across him and the victim. There are also some interesting clips comparing CBC coverage of the event with CNN. The Canadian media are surprisingly factual and calm.

Media in most countries are calm when compared to CNN.

But yeah, CBC does a good job describing the facts of the matter.

a couple of FYIs via The Star...

1. in case you were curious about the intentional mangling of the anthem: "he stood up and sang Canada's national anthem -- to the tune of Frank Sinatra's 'The Way You Look Tonight'." (an intentional choice he made to obviously express endearment)

2. unlike 'muhricans, apparently Canadian officials WANT video (of what actually happened during a terrorist incident / national tragedy) to actually be released to the public. Because truth and objective facts > speculation and selling media coverage and whatnot. Eh. (and yay!)
