Yes, there is actually a movie in the works loosely based on the old Battleship boardgame:

http://battleship.movie-trailer.com/ and http://io9.com/5416779/epic-alien-battleship-movie-leaks-the-details-on-the-new-et

Apparently they plot involves aliens coming to Earth but having technology that's approximately equivalent to our navy powers.  Oh, and the radar systems will probably go offline so that they have to use old tech to find targets.

And no, this is not the same as Space Battleship Yamato.

looks like "Battleship" is gonna be like Skyline/B:LA (or a reverse-Avatar)

Might be a pretty good "action escape" movie ... as long as it doesn't take itself too seriously.

(the first full-length trailer had the obligatory "radar is down")

I .. uh .. err .. what the hell is the plot there?  Aliens invade Earth and set up a barrier at sea from where they launch attacks, and a few ships are inside that barrier?  Is that really considered a plot?  And was that LIAM NEESON?  That's quite the drop from being in a Star Wars movie...

Meh, who cares? Hence my "hope" that it is a silly "escape" film that takes you for a fun ride for 90 minutes... and then the next day you can't remember anything noteworthy about the characters or plot. B:LA was kinda like that.

Hmmm... http://io9.com/battleship/ early UK reviews seem to say it's boring/dull ,

"The Aliens which are always the most interesting part of any science fiction film let the film down. They do not intrigue or scare you ... You feel indifferent towards the characters...living, dead, aliens ... nothing new is tried and there is no ambition ... fails basic action movie grammar: no idea of balance or sustained threat; in the film's first half, the invaders are positively indefatigable, yet without much of a change of tactics in the second half, they are quite inexplicably weakened ... rotten but kind of knows it". wtf...

Then again, how about this backhanded praise: "This is a film that sets its sights low, and blows the hell out of them."

No matter what reviewers or people say I'll still go see this one as I thought it looked good.  Like John Carter I will go in with no expectations and hopefully will be pleasantly entertained.

But hey I am easy to please with movies, so it could just be me that likes it and the whole world could hate it.

Looks like you've got the formula for happiness figured out, low expectation ftw! Like this reviewer:

I know that Melbosa said he liked this movie, and I and countless others were skeptically eye-rolling in advance of its release.

But I Netflixed it on the weekend and REALLY ENJOYED IT! Check your brain at the door and don't look too deep into some of the plot stuff and it WORKS, it's a fun ride and reminds me of ID4 or Armageddon in tone with worse acting at times but better explodey goodness imo. I actually felt TENSION at times too -- often missing in UhmericaFyeah actioners!

I gave it a 4-star and rewatched certain scenes. Heck I didnt even notice it was Rihanna as one character, that says a lot :)

Also for kicks cuz I was pumped up I then viewed The Asylum piece of crap version sorta -- called "American Warships", starring Sonny Spoon, and Apollo Creed (now old and bald).

MISTAKE.

I was hoping perhaps MST3K-worthy... Hope denied.

I've heard it has its moments, would I pay full admission to see? No. Would I watch on Netflix, yes.

I put it in the "Iron Sky"/ "Radar Men from the Moon" category

Not sure if u are referring to the big budget blockbuster film (BS) or the low budget joke attempt at cashing in (AW).

And hey Iron Sky did a great job at entertaining start to finish PLUS obviously never took itself seriously. AW -- nope, on both counts.
To be clear: Sharknado >>>>> AW ainec.

Ahh ok

Weirdly enough I discovered this morning that "Commando Cody" itself was trying to cash in on "Space Patrol" (Commando Corry)

Also there's a band by the name of "Radar Men from the Moon" (which is almost as frustrating as the band named "Urusei Yatsura")
