update: last thing I want to try is enabling "Curtain Mode"; I am currently connected to my home PC, and went to the registry entry* mentioned @ https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/2799701?hl=en ... but I'm not hopeful because apparently "Curtain Mode has not been fully implemented on Windows yet" :( https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=222892

... then again a bit hopeful again, because maybe problems others are having = just a documentation issue:

Now that I semi-regularly use the Google Chrome Remote Desktop app, and out of habit just go to chrome://apps and click the app from there, I discovered today something Google is offering:

"Chrome App Launcher"

So it appears they are really pushing ahead for this whole "Google for all your needs" concept. Not necessarily a bad thing, obv.

Well, except if your need is to have an email notification icon in the taskbar notification area (the "system tray", but that's not what it's called) that pops up when a new email arrives.  They took that away.

Still lovin' Chrome Remote Desktop.

But looks like JUST THIS WEEK there was an update to my Chrome browser (at least at work) where I no longer launch the RDP chrome app in its own window -- which was a handy thing you could do in the past which would ensure all your keyboard presses would only register in the remote client, not the local host (e.g. ALT-TAB) ... did anyone else notice this is now "broken"?  >:(

I coulda sworn that in the past from "chrome://apps" all you had to do was right-click the "Chrome Remote Desktop" icon and you would see an option to open in its own window (and that is gone now -- or am I hallucinating; maybe it was in a different place?)

Maybe check the Google Support forums for angry people posts, that's usually where you can find information about changes.

Just remember to click "view all discussions" rather than try and search, the irony being their support search is trash (IMO)

Chrome Remote Desktop is no longer in the "Beta forever until suddenly dropped for no reason" limbo.

It's officially OUT OF BETA (after 4 years).

#WHEW!

...anoying that I have to be logged into a Google account to download it onto Chrome, though. But that happened a few releases ago...
