So I'm stupid bored. You might scoff at me for that, but i have an excuse. My RSI is acting up after all of that coding last week. Spent way too much time in long stretches. So now here i am sitting, being bored cause i can't really do anything that needs my hands. Really shouldn't be typing this probably. lol. I have my wrist braces on, so at least there's that.

The most important things I need to do all require hand/wrist action (that's what she said). I'm hoping another day of rest will help.

Back in the day i really over did it, the pain had spread up to my biscep/shoulder. pain in my hand, wrist and arm, with burning along my forearm. Probably the worst i ever had it. I remember It not going completely away for 1-2 weeks. I basically did nothing during that time. Mostly just watched TV, Anime and Movies.

Really need to try not to do the long 10/12+ hour coding marathons. more breaks. less obsession.

This is why I do things in bursts

Or at least try to

That's the problem. I have spurts. That was one of them. :D

Afterwards I end up useless for a while :(whether is a physical spurt or a mental spurt. I do like getting @%&# done though. So I like to actually use the very rare chances I do have to be productive.

Do you have a good ergonomic workstation for your coding? Padded wrist rest, etc? Or do you sit on the couch with your laptop to do your coding?
Prayin' for a 20!

gcc thorin.c -pedantic -o Thorin
compile successful

Well, most of the time these days, I'm on the couch with a laptop desk with extendable legs. It's pretty cool. keeps the laptop up to a height where my arms and wrists are straight. even better than using my desk.

I also have a desk, and a nice computer chair, but I dunno, I rarely feel like working there anymore. which is weird, nice chair, dual monitor... pretty nice. but the couch is pretty damn comfy and i can put my feet up. I also suppose I like being able to have youtube or twitch on the tv while I'm working. My concentration is often very thin. If I try and force myself to concentrate, I just end up frustrated and grumpy. If i let my mind wander off for a bit, it goes back pretty quick and i don't get (as) frustrated.

I may go back to the desk just to get the dual screen action again mind you. need to clean up over there though.

Well when I say a spurt I mean 1-2 hours with a break at the end

Going 8+ hours can happen but it comes with a price

Heh yeah. Normally I take lots of little breaks. Due to my concentration issues ;D but when I get into the zone, time is lost.

Believe me I've done it on livestream no less, it's even worse when I'm doing something like art by myself or even some games if they are engrossing

It's really bad because you get worn down. Get up, walk around, make some tea or something, anything...

But yeah I put an end to 6+ hour coding sessions a while ago, code quality went up and back aches went down

on the subject of staying busy without having full use of the fingers/wrists, well have you considering going for a long walk or jog and then once your adrenaline or endorphine kick hits you watch some comedy or action film on Netflix and you might find it's even more enjoyable, at the very least you would pass 90-120 minutes without feeling as anxious (since you kept your body moving for a chunk of time first).

This long weekend has been similar for me, I spent far too much time on my phone or on my laptop and eventually I found my mind wandering (in the midst of something interesting) so I did a bunch of jumping jacks and speed-pushups and -crunches and once my heart rate was boosted I felt a bit "woken up" mentally and ended up getting some chores done. Felt less bored by acting less bored, that's the way our minds work, sometimes you can "fake it until you make it" when it comes to emotions or mental mindset.

Oh, well I do get up, even when zoning. But not long enough. When I'm in my fuzzy/distracted state, I'll just sit back and browse the internet or watch some youtube (As well as get up and stuff) for 10-30min.

When i was working, I tried to get up and have short breaks every 1-2 hours. There's an app for that :o

I get up and stretch, sometimes go for a walk

It really helps

Yeah, it really does. Especially if you're stuck on a problem. clear your head and it often solves itself.
