My youngest has been exposed to Rubik's Cubes through friends at school, and he's really interested in them.  He ended up getting one, so I had to learn how to solve it.  In the end, a 3x3 isn't actually that hard.  I can do it in two minutes or less now.

Then he ended up ordering a package, with a 2x2, a 3x3 (so now we have two), a 4x4, and a 5x5.  And someone's gotta be able to solve them!  The third time through, the 4x4 took me about an hour.  The first time through, the 5x5 took me about two hours.

THANK GOD FOR YOUTUBE VIDEOS!  And this amazing cuber, Rob's World.

I have never once been able to solve a rubik's cube. I don't much expect that to change.

I tried learning as a kid and couldn't get it.  The biggest problem was that I didn't keep the cube straight in front of me, so even if I followed a set of steps I'd move the cube in my hand and end up doing half the moves on the wrong side.  As an adult I pay more attention to not letting the cube wander around, and so the moves work now.  It's a certain set of moves, some you repeat a bunch of times, but there's only a certain set.  I have them memorized now and can apply them at will.
