My Galaxy Note 2 is finally dying after many long years of service, so time for something new. Telus Mobility site has a limited selection of phones so I don't want to get hung up on just what they offer.

I'm actually pretty interested in the Note 8 but that may not come out until late this year and I don't know if my current phone will last that long. Since I'm not too well up on what's out there what are you guys into these days?

I'm mainly looking at phones that run Android, it's the OS I'm most familiar with through multiple tablets, phones over the years. I'm also interested in large screens and decent support for accessories, one of the challenges I hit early on with the Note 2 was finding accessories became extremely difficult.

I had thought they were replacing the Note line with a different name for a while to let people forget about the Note 7 ;D

I'd been looking at the LG V20, for a couple reasons, its a high end device, but also it supports the new LTE Band 66 which freedom mobile (read: wind mobile) uses for its new LTE network.

Samsung Galaxy S's are still a good bet for reliability I hear.

Moto's seem to be good still.

You can get some reasonably good phones from chinese brands that are entering the market at good pricepoints. Don't expect the world, but you get a mid-high range phone for half the price.

Yeah I'm mostly concerned with reliability over price, I've owned 3 cell phones in 17 years, when I go with one its for the long haul

I think Samsung Galaxy S7 is a good bet if you need it now.  Flagship phone, dust- and water-resistant (1.5m submersion for 30 minutes).  More fragile in drop tests than the iPhone 7 (don't get the Edge if you're worried about drops).  Wireless charging built in.

I've also looked at the Google Nexus 6P, Mel has that I think, and from what I've read it's quick and doesn't have bloatware on it.  Not dust- or water-resistant.  Seems to do okay in drop tests.

Beyond that, I can't give any suggestions if you want to stay on Android.
Prayin' for a 20!

The oneplus line of phones is very popular and considered better price / performance wise vs the Google and Samsung flagships generally.

Tom

The pixel seems to be a good phone, but its expensive like the Galaxy and iPhones.

They have issues with not supporting certain standards and rolling their own things that are incompatible with other things. like their quick charging and usb-c ports. Also they tend to miss certain frequency bands that might be wanted, so double check the OnePlus has what you need.

I have the One, and its been ok, but i've had issues with it on Wind, and it is most definitely not water resistant.

I've owned my Nexus 6P now for over 8 Months and has been one of the best phones I've owned to date.  I do not know anyone with its successor the Pixel yet, so I cannot comment on that.  What I can say is owning a Google Branded phone compared to a Samsung has been by far a better purchase in terms of compatibility, stability and options.  Google seems to really take care of their own lines first and well.

It was a sad day when they stopped making Nexus devices :( They stopped selling them as well :(

One of the guys at work has a pixel and it seems to be good.

I upgraded from an iPhone 5c to the iPhone 7 this year. We have so many iPads in the house we just stick with family sharing and the iOS ecosystem I have no complaints with my phone other than price.
