Sometimes I Think Before I Type... Sometimes!

Mr. Analog

Has anyone tried the demo yet?

I'm gonna try the demo tonight.

The NGC version, done by a different development team (!?), is way cool and not just fun but *hard*. So I'm hoping the spirit of the original + expansion are here in Sam2.

And NO, I won't let you guys "borrow" it   , I'll let you guys know what I think of the demo though ;)

...and Good News Everyone, it's Croteam who've been behind this baby all the way... "Woo style" eh  8)

Ive heard that its HORRIBLE.  Sure its serious Sam, but for being in development for near 4 years (or longer) (anyone remember that Serious Sam LAN Druid and I had back in the NAIT days? (im not sure who at RW came, if any)).

I havent played it, ive just heard that its full of "Been There, Done That"

Mr. Analog

That's sad, I remember compiling the source a couple months before the actual release of the original, thanks to DD letting me know about it. It was such a wicked fun game! Sad to hear that it might suck.

Well, at least wait till you download the "Full Version Trial" before giving it the ol' 2 thumbs down.  Im just posting the general concensus amung fellow game forum goers.

If your looking for HL2 depth in SS2, your nuts.

Lazybones

SS is all about mindless shooting.. More so than any other FPS..

I can't imagin from the screen shots that anyone would consider 2 a big advancment over the last..

It does look very dated.

From the previews I've read, this may be a conscious trade off.  Apparently, the number of enemies is going to be more insanely large, and the size of the boss monsters will dwarf the giants of the previous games.

Mr. Analog

I'm sick of shooters that try to slap a story on, SS is all about shooting stuff with friends not at them (though, you can do that too).

Thats the total opposite of myself.  Im tired of games using a horid story to stitch missions together.  Id loooooooove to see more story.

SS is a great LAN game, and im sure we could all spend an entire weekend going from start to finish.  After that, what is left?  We've experianced all their is to do.

So.....how does this take 4 years?  I can take a model in HL2 and make it so huge you can only see its foot in about 3 seconds.  Adding more creatures seems pretty simple.  SS2 fell behind maybe?  Though looking at the upcoming "next gen", is there anything, what is the game that agian moves the gaming industry forward?  Far Cry led this charge, who's gonna pick up the torch?

Exactly; the reason it actually won Gamespot GOTR its release year? Unlike a lot of games at that time (and perhaps even today) it was, in a word: FUN.

Note: I found Call of Duty to be far more intense then SS, the secret to SS is to walk backwards constantly while holding down the "fire" button. ;)

Melbosa

Nothing for me beet the intensity of MOHAA when I played that for the first time :D

Release date is October 10th; Future Schlock has a tentative price in their computers of $29.99.

re. The demo:

Pretty damn sweet!

The colours are bright, the level is realistic yet cartoony, futuristic yet medieval in style. The baddies are fast moving, hard as spit to defeat sometimes, especially when you're surrounded and running away triggers more spawns. There are a lot of new baddies, improved and new weapons, and some powerups.

And the gameplya itself is intense, of course. You will *not* be reclining in your chair all comfy while you play.

I didn't quite finish the demo level, and I was getting weird lock-up problems occasionally especially when trying to initiate a network game or join an existing one (app only, kill task was all that way needed instead of a reboot thank goodness)... but I am sure that was identified by others and fixed before it went Gold.

I'd give it a thumbs up, from Sam1 experiences, and from what I've seen here, well just the very idea of playing co-op with 7 other players through some of them big and pretty levels Croteam is notorious for, that's the stuff, baby!  8)
