Socket F is a new CPU socket designed by AMD for its Opteron line of CPUs. The socket will have 1207 pins, and is planned to be released around the beginning of the second half of 2006. Release dates are tentative however, and subject to change.

Socket F will start out primarily for use in AMD's server line, and will be considered to be in the same socket generation as Socket M2, which will be used for the Athlon 64.
