The Austrian town of Rattenberg has a problem in the winter, because of their location next to the mountain of Rat, they don't get any sun during the winter, the solution? Install giant mirrors and focus light into the town of course!

Sure it sounds like something Mr. Burns might do (or in this case NOT do) but it's true...

This reminds me of a plan the Soviets actually had to put giant mirrors in space to heat some of their northern cities. Enviromentalists were "slightly" concerned about that one.

I've often thought about putting strategically-placed mirrors in the corners of every room, and that way during our dreary winter (all 6 months of it) I could take that tiny shaft of light through the clouds, and redirect it to any room I'm in :) Wonder if I could get some benefactor to pay *me* $600,000 to "plan" this ...

They have had them for a few years.. Little different from a sky light since you can have it piped into odd places.
