uTorrent it's small in size and resource use.. Not as feature complete as some clients but very impressive for it's size.

Just thought I would share this.. I have been a big Fan of Azureus for it's features but it can be a resource hog.. I am surprised at how low the memory and CPU use is in uTorrent.

Does it support RSS feeds?

Darren Dirt

I just caught that on Wikipedia this week too -- but assumed it's been around for a while already.

PS: the name "uTorrent", from the "u" being Greek "myoo" meaning "micro", like with some measurements and stuff.

"?Torrent (pronounced as 'micro-torrent', 'you-torrent' or 'mu-torrent' [1]) is a BitTorrent client for Microsoft Windows. The entire program is included in a single 130 KiB (as of January 2006) executable."

I found a link to it from thsi category page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:BitTorrent_clients

Features

?Torrent implements many of the features introduced by much larger clients such as Azureus, BitComet and BitTornado, while retaining a very small footprint. The program's typical memory usage is less than 6 MB, and the CPU use is low enough for most older systems (as low as 486) to run it. It also retains support for Windows 95/98/ME in a single executable without the need for the Microsoft Layer for Unicode.

Some of the more notable features present in ?Torrent include:

Unicode support

UPnP support (Windows XP only)

Super-seeding

Protocol encryption (PE)

Peer exchange (PEX)

RSS Broadcatching

"Trackerless" BitTorrent support, using DHT compatible with the original BitTorrent client and BitComet

Configurable bandwidth scheduler

Customizable search bar and icons

Localized to different languages, the program can also be localized by any end user through modification of a text file

Upcoming features

Web interface (currently in alpha) [2]

RSS 1.0 and 2.0 [3]

Azureus compatible DHT [4]

HTTPS and UDP trackers [5]

Magnet links [6]

Linux and Mac version [7]

I have a problem with BitTorrent:

That really depends on what you are downloading.  Torrents rock for 0-day stuff, but for old cultish anime it really isnt the best choice.

Mr. Analog

Even some movies I find don't have enough seeds or complete rips :-/

That's very true, though there are some torrent trackers that have rare, bizzare stuff still being seeded on 'em (the trick is finding 'em). It mainly helps if you're looking for subtitled content to know the name of three good sub groups then just check their trackers regularly. This does kind of re-introduce the annoying level of "find it yo' own darn self!" that the eDonkey network ever suffered from.

Ironically 0-day cultish anime torrents outpace 0-day well known anime by about 1000-3000 more seeds from what I've seen. It's like everyone MUST HAVE NOW!!!! then later taunt those who didn't get it because they didn't know about the release a month in advance.

Tom

Unless its Naruto or something as popular. Then you get 2000+ seeds and peers.

Mr. Analog: I find, even when theres few or no seeds, a file will still finish, usually as seeds pop on and off, and the peers will still overall have a full copy.

Though sometimes I just forget some torrents are going, and have had some on for weeks/months before they finish.
