Using both Google Talk and MSN I have been getting tired of using two clients all the time.
I looked at using Trilllian which is a great client, but the FREE version does not support Google Talk only the Pro version does. Also they seem very close to releasing a whole new client so I decided to look elsewhere.

I wanted a desktop app not a web service, which let me to look for GAIM, which has not been renamed Pidgin.

Having used it before I was impressed surprised by the updates to the UI, the main contact list follows a simple standard look similar to google talk, the chat winders are similar to Trillian in the fact that they support tabs.

In use my only complaint so far has been that the message windows do not remember their position and always start off in the same position. The plugin system is all right, there are a number of plugins available but non that do too much of interest, only minor tweaks for the most part.

Over all I think it is a solid client if you just need to support the text message features of multiple networks.
