Nice.  Should be good, as the stories are always so vague in the games, would be nice to actually figure one out for once.

The real question is will it feature Tina in the cat suite and Zak in the teletubby suite.

Teaser -- http://video.craveonline.com/video/comingsoon/?showVideo=1665&statsid=26&pid=1 (probably elsewhere too, so I apologize in advance for popups/ads etc. on that site ;) )

And I'm pretty sure the casting is finalized if a teaser is out  :P

OK I know this is one hell of a rez-thread, but I thought it would be worth it.

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but after finally tracking down an NTSC version of this movie, I have to say, this is probably one of the best fighting video game adaptations to a movie I've ever seen.  Yes it isn't the best martial arts fighting movie ever made, but it does cover the moves, the action, the ladies, and even the beach volleyball spin off from the games so well, and is a story that you can actually follow, that it is one worth seeing.  Mortal Kombat was decent enough for its time, trying to make sense of a game with fighting and magics, but DOA is definately a better movie.  Because DOA is more closely related to the real world fighting (well except you won't find the demon end boss in this movie) I think it made a better transition from Video-Screen to Movie-Screen.

If you have ever played, watched, or even touched on anything DOA, you will be pleasently surprised by this film.  And some decent named actors in it as well.  This aint no UB Video-Game-To-Movie.

Well, without having seen it I'm going to say right here and now any DOA movie is going to be pure fanservice. What is the storyline? Does it follow the games' universe or is it just a beach movie with some fighting thrown in?

Now, I will give Corey Yuan a lot of leeway because he was co-director for The Transporter (not to be confused with it's tacky sequel which was all Louis Leterrier's fault) which was a brilliant film. I think there could be potential but Hollywood @%&#s up pretty much every game-to-movie translation so my expectations are very low.

I will be very surprised if I will enjoy this film.

Oh yeah! A question: Why was it only a limited release in the US on the 15th of June? Why was it released everywhere else last year? What is terribly wrong with this movie?

Story line follows the DOA 3 with the Kasumi's brother missing (Hayate), and she heads out to find out what happened to him.  Tina is at the tournament to prove she isn't just a fake wrestler, and to prove to her father that she should be taken seriously.  Christie is there with Max to try and steal the prize money.  Helena is the daughter of the guy who put the whole tournament together.  Donovan runs the show after Helena's dad died.  So as you can see there is a couple of plots, plus the main one that I wouldn't want to spoil.

All and all it is actually put together quite well.  Granted I had low hopes for this movie, but was pleasently surprised when it turned out to be actually quite good.  The fighting styles match the game moves, but remind me of the original Transporter for the overall feel of it.

As to why the wierd release, I never figured that one out.  Advent Children I understood, given it was a Japanese release first, but this one wasn't even close to being that type of release restrictions.

Seriously though, it is worth watching.  Fighting is very well done, with only the marginal over the top to match the game moves, and the story flows and makes sense.
